Lanai Cat Sanctuary

Lanai Cat Sanctuary is home to about 400-500 cats, who happily walk and play on 25,000 square feet of land on one of the most remote islands in the US. The cats here are very friendly (and some very demanding!) and come up to you looking for you to stoke them. It’s very relaxing and rewarding. I took the ferry over from Maui for the day. It was such a fun experience and I’m glad that I went.

I expected feral cats that would be afraid of me, but they were incredibly loving, welcoming (even though i didn’t bring food), clean and healthy.

If you have room in your heart for a small furry friends, then a stop here is a must.

  1. I’ve heard of such places. There is an island for bunnies in Japan. I always wonder how they stop the animals from overbreeding and wrecking the ecosystem. Or is that the exclusive province of humans?

  2. Wow! If they are living peacefully together like that, it means their lives are relatively stress-free. A great collection of photos of happy felines 🙂
