Flibbertigibbet is a Middle English word referring to a flighty or whimsical person, usually a young woman. In modern use, it is used as a slang term, especially in Yorkshire, for a gossipy or overly talkative person.
Can you see I added the above word to my photo? By the way, the photo is from a waiting room doctor’s office. They had a very nice aquarium, so I snapped some photos while I waited.
This is a #usethisword challenge by Ghostwriter. She has listed words to choose from and make a post. Make sure to use the hashtag #usethisword in the title of your post.
If you missed her post, you can find it here: Refresh Virily ~ Another Attempt.
She actually wrote another post today explaining a different way to play this challenge. You can find that post here: Not Exactly What I Thought
Hopefully I did this one correctly. If not I am sure I will be instructed the correct way. Interesting words to choose from by the way.
I chose Flibbertigibbet (from her list) only because I know a few of these. I avoid these people as they usually bring drama with them. This is a silly sounding and innocent word I can use now, instead of the one I have used in the past. That is for another story. Ha!

I do not participate in this challenge, dear friend
You do not know about this challenge. I will read the terms in detail.
She said you can do this one your way, no rules in place. But in her post, as I said above, this is a #usethisword challenge by Ghostwriter. She has listed words to choose from and make a post. Make sure to use the hashtag #usethisword in the title of your post.
Pretty tank they have there. I have seen it one other time as well, before I got my tanks. I remember thinking, I really want a fish tank. Now I have two. lol. I like the word, and idea.
I thought so too Kim, perfect for a waiting room.
I have to admit this is the first time I have ever seen or heard this word. Being a woman of few words, I am sure it does not apply to me. Great picture and post…
Same here my friend, and you are not one of these! Thank you for your kind words.
Hmmm .. I am no flibbertigibbet , I can assure you of that. I am a person of few words when you meet me in person. 😀
No you are not at all my friend! Same here. We are alike.
This is really a challenge for me, as I don’t understand all those words. But it seems like we are all here to learn new words which is good. Thanks for sharing the meaning of this word! 🙂
I had to look up the meaning of the words, I knew none of them either. 🙂 You are welcome.
I like this one – I used the word Flummox!
But I like the idea of embedding the word in the picture – really cool Carol!!!!
I was trying to do something different, thanks Doc!
Lovely image and photo, very nice..
Thanks Pam, the aquarium was pretty.
great challenge indeed
I thought so too, different for sure.
a willow-the-whisp, a clown…
I also saw the meaning as a medieval ghost light.
I was quoting Sound of Music…
Interesting challenge, thanks for sharing.
You are very welcome my friend.
This took me to the lyrics of the song by those nuns in Sound of Music where one of the nuns asks what is another word of Maria and this was the word suggested (lol)
I had forgotten all about this word. It is the kind of word that is hard to pronounce I love that aquarium
Thanks, the aquarium was really big.
Thanks for the added knowledge.
You are welcome, I learned a new word.
Very interesting. I know the word, but didn’t know the origin. Thank you for this post Carol. Love the photo too!
You are welcome Maggie, always so good to see you.
Interesting post. I haven’t done the post yet because I didn’t understand what I needed to do
It is a little confusing. But her post lists 4-5 words you can choose from. Then you write a post using that word. The others here have commented using the word as well.
I am hoping I did it correctly.
There is not really a wrong way to do it. It is just about some exposure to new words and finding a way to use them. Thanks so much for playing along.
Oh thanks, good to know! 🙂
Have you heard about a neural disease people get from watching goldfish? Neither have I, Lol, I’m just being a Flibbertigibbet! P.S. I saw your word in the fish-tank.
Ha you are so funny Andre! 🙂 Thanks for the visit and humor.
I just saw the word hidden in the picture after I saw poll question #2. Now, I will use this word in a sentence. Every time there is a bug found on this site, Virily administrators say “flibbertigibbet.”
Ha that is a good one. Thanks for playing along!
Great things happening here. Thanks ya’ll gave me a big smile.
You started all of this, don’t forget that. 🙂
