July 2019 was one of the hottest July’s ever. Of the last recorded hottest July’s in recorded history ten have comes since 2005. 9 of 10 in 14 years is a little scary.

I am a huge weather geek. Recently a friend of mine shared a new home weather station (I now, you only need one) with me and I thought I would share a review of the new Smart Weather Systems. I am always intrigued with weather systems that connect to my iPhone, android or another portal, electronic systems to use as both storages (of data) and display. The other things I am interested in is getting more and more weather data. The picture shared with today’s post came from my weather station. It has been only for a month give or take a few days. The data collected is presented in an easy to use screen, but you can also go to a more detailed screen to bet additional data.
• Current UV
• Last time lightning was detected near you.
• Rainfall and rainfall rate.
• Temperature and so on.
You can also share your station directly with others. The interesting thing for me with this station is the lightning strike near me information. That is not new for this particular weather station. It always let me know when there is a thunderstorm rolling in from the mountains.
Setup of the station was easy. The first thing you do is plug in the indoor module. Add the solar array to the outside exposed unit and then the batteries to the hidden outdoor unit. One of the things that I get frustrated with Bloomsky is that they don’t have a separate outdoor temperature gauge. So no matter what you get a high temperature on my videos that is an in the sun temperature.
In-the-sun is not air temperature; it is always 3-5 degrees more.
Local or personal weather is important for two factors. The first is that most NWS stations are located in the city. Where I live in Maryland is not a big city, but there is enough concrete that downtown is 2-3 degrees warmer than where I am.
My overall rating for the Smart Weather Station is 9 out of 10.

In Miami we got hurricanes. In Texas we get tornadoes. I am grateful that I have never experienced a tornado. But I stay on my guard because you never know! Like you say … weather matters. It would be foolish to ignore it.
it is, i have lived through both, neither is fun.
In the Tropics, we get cyclones ?
I remember that 🙂 same weather affect, different name!
Yep. Exactly. But if peeps here hear of tornado, we picture it as the funnel-shaped rotating very strong winds. That, we see very rarely
🙂 understood my friend, understood!

Cars not near trees are safe in Lightning!
Now, when it comes to Tornados cars are not safe.
Cars should be safe because of their rubber tyres but if lightning strikes a tree and it lands on a car then it can cause loss of life and serious damage.
That is very true, a car is also safe because the metal will dissipate the lightning.
We don’t get forked lightning but only mainly sheet lightning. Weather is very interesting.
I found this weather website interesting it is global,,,
https://earth.nullschool.net/#current/wind/surface/level/orthographic=-189.89,-27.50,1003
I’ve wandered many of the global sites.
The problem is where are they collecting data from. If you take a reading in Downtown NYC, or Downtown Washington DC, it is 8 to 12 degrees warmer at times in the winter than where I live.
4-5 degrees warmer in the summer.
are they still denying climate destabilization in DC?
Depends sadly on which side of the street you are on.
There are those who claim NOAA and NWS are lying.
There are those that are buying up property 100 miles inland in Florida. People have to go somewhere when the ocean rises.
I am glad there are some people taking global warming seriously. I know some here are not.
honestly it makes me sad. I have a friend that inherited a lot of inland property in Florida.
He put a sign on it saying “Soon to be Beachfront property.:
That is sad. All the coastal areas will be threatened. New Orleans will definitely be gone.
See you down in Arizona Bay
Arizona bay – I am laughing out loud.
killing me with humor!
I’ll be here all week. Don’t forget to tip your waitress…
I see your posts on weather at myLot I think every single day (lol)
I didn’t know you were on Mylot!
A hot summer is fine with us but not too much rain.
At this point i am over hot and rain as well!!!!
My husband really wants to go visit Oklahoma again. He can go. He shared way to many weather stories for me to do there.
Oklahoma is the heart of tornado alley not always a good place to be in the spring.
It looks very interesting and useful. I would have such a weather station too.
🙂 they are useful 🙂 I always want what the weather is, where I am!
I would love to have a weather station (I’m a weather geek/nerd as well). Thanks for the great review.
They have so many more features now than they did, and so much easier to setup. I had one many years ago that took me three days to get working!
Great review! Meteorology is fun here with rain shadows and convergence zones. There is a guy from U of W that does a weekly weather show on the radio and he loves weather. He gets pretty animated.
Geez, just heard a tech joke: What do you call a bee from the United States?
Answer: A USB. (ouch)
I’ve heard that old tech joke. groan!
I love watching the weather!
Thankfully no flooding in my area. I have been through tornadoes and I keep a watch on the weather.
In Indiana we used to get Tornados at least once a year. Now, in Maryland we get them once a year. Oh well!!!
We are expecting thunder storm today night
please stay safe thunderstorms can be very dangerous
You are a really versatile man … how many hobbies do you have … well time permits you … we are lucky that we have no tornadoes even though he has appeared in Europe already … he recently wreaked havoc in Luxembourg .. .I only saw it on TV … I’m not afraid of the flood because I’m so far away from the water that it never gets to me even though it crosses the banks
I have many hobbies 🙂 I like to keep learning all the time!
That is cool! My phone tell me what kind of a day its going to be and I am happy with it. I watch the skies and predict my own weather too . 😀
When I first started out many years ago, smart phones didn’t tell you the weather!
For me, so far, it’s only the sun and the sun again. There is nothing but heat.
It has been that way in DC as well. hot hot hot.
