Love ItLove It

Virily is an application.

I won’t chase my tail today about the reality of sites like Virily. I will say when views go down, and revenue goes down. I talked the other day about the reality of Virily being built on a WordPress frame or a WordPress template. I also talked about the application having three if not more, distinct, and unique components.

  • The front end, or what shares the Virily with your browser
  • Process or logic layer, where you can posts, templates or comments and interact with any of those on the site
  • Backend this is the overall storage of the site and login information for users.
  •  It should be noted that all posts that are available online are stored by Virily. It does appear that some older posts are no longer available.

Each of these layers is housed in a set of servers and storage arrays. If this is an application built in a cloud provider than each layer is a VM or Virtual Machine. If this is physical hardware, then based on how infrequently it goes down (it hasn’t been down the past 13 days, just not at full capacity.)

The code that provides us with the templates and the submission process is included in the process layer and is presented in the web layer of the application. In both cases, the process layer and the front end call upon the backend for information. Is this a valid user is one call that the front end makes to the backend.

I am telling everyone this because Virily is a pretty complex application. It isn’t something that you make in an afternoon in your first programming class. If it were, there were 1000 Virilys in production today. It takes time, effort and ultimately passion!

I always try to remember the Reddit rule, REMEMBER THE HUMAN!

Simply put it means what you say to a person should be the same regardless of online or in person.

  2. I wish I could read 30 a day. Sometimes, it’s difficult for me to just get on here. It is frustrating when your post does not go up. I have two blogs and two other sites that I am trying to get back to and I am hoping to get back into freelancing again.

  3. Thanks for sharing the helpful info. I understand all this but I still get angry at times and wonder “why me”. I have no goal in terms of how many posts I will read. It depends on the time and mood (unfortunately occasionally I am not “collected” to read and comment).

  4. Excellent post, Scott. Very clearly explained, even for the likes of me (haha, I can say that when it’s about me, though 🙂 ) And thanks especially for the timely reminder to remember the human, and to keep our tone civil. In a world where you can be anything, be kind.

  5. This post makes perfect sense, thanks so much Doc, I will try and read 30 posts a day.

I would like to be able to use that website I have…FASO…..It hasn’t worked for me and I had a problem with it and even the person trying to help me from that site had differculty..

Anyway if I can some how align the use of that with Virily somehow…I am not sure …I will do my best to try and make it pay for itself or I may have to ditch FASO

        • i just looked at the site! I would probably not have a picture of myself on a site like that (security reasons).

          But the idea is solid!

I can see a lot of interesting things you could do to make it more active!

        • Alex has a catalog (Alex Ledante) of his artwork on his site.

I think, based on some of the amazing stuff you have done –

I would start off with a personal note,
(hi my name is Pam) like you have but I would lead with one of your pictures that you’ve created.

I would then offer a catalog of images, based on the types of things you have done in the past.

The other option is to look at Patreon a web site for people to back and support your art…

  6. I am back, or trying to come back, and not to just Virily but to blogging. I really wish I could do 30 a day, I try to get as many as possible as well as share my own for outside views on many social media sites.

My excuse is I work three jobs, although I can run most of it from home, some days its just hard to work from waking till going to sleep. And working from home puts me in isolation so I tend to mylot for the “people time” and blog for the when ever the people does comment.

Does any of that make sense?

  7. I do read twenty to twenty five posts each day, sometimes more. Right now I don’t have a goal for virily but I had for other sites. Maybe I will have one for the month of November.

  8. Oh my goodness! I laughed. I couldn’t answer one of your questions because I know I use it differently than most. I am proud to work with “the likes of you!” You are straight forward, to the point, fun, educated, willing to teach, happy to share, incredibly kind so yes, bring on everyone who are “the likes of you”.

  9. That’s a good goal. I think I should make a goal like that as well, though I am not sure if I can make it every day.

I was a web developer, hence I can understand sometimes issues like this just happen, and it really takes time to figure out what’s wrong and find the solution. Those issues were not made intentionally, so I think it’s good not to get angry with the team. 🙂

I didn’t know some old posts were missing. My very first post, which was written 2 years ago, is still around. I learned to back up my posts after some sites closed down. 🙂
