How good is your American geography? Find out by testing your ability to name the states, provinces and territories of North America, identifying them only by their shape. Do let us know how you get on 🙂
Level: Challenging if you live outside of North America. For Americans, it should be a doddle 😉

Got 11 out of 16 right!
Not bad for a European! Thanks for playing the quiz, Lucia 🙂
i got 12 out of 16
You did well!
Shared FB 5/8/17 @180V
5/9/17 rather.
13/16
Nice score, Gary 🙂 Thanks for trying this one!
15 of 18.
Very good score, Paul! Thanks for taking the quiz 🙂
9 out of 16 😉
More than 50%, Aries! Thanks for playing 🙂
Fun!
11/16
Glad you enjoyed, Nina! Thanks for playing ☺
Not being an American, it was hard to even make guesses… Allow me to not mention my score here 😀 😀
Lol, I think I would be in the same position if I had to take this test!
Good to hear that… Got much needed mental support 😀 😀
5 out of 16 right! Could be better. Better? I’m ashamed of myself. 🙂
You did about as well as me!
12 out of 16 and two of them were stupid mistakes and the other two I did not know.
Well done, Mark. I don’t know how you can tell many of those ‘cookie-cutter’ states apart at all!
15 out of 16.
Impressive!
Thanks Norman!
12 out of 16.
Good score, DPG!
10/16. Not bad I guess
I guess the same 🙂 Thanks for playing!
So what’s the difference between Baja California and Baja California Sur? I mean, other than the knighthood…
LOL re Sir 🙂 Like North and South Carolina, they are separate states, that’s all. Thanks for playing!
Oh, I see. I’ve always just heard it referred to as baja before and I guess I’ve never checked it out on a map…
When people refer to it like that, I suppose they are referring to the whole peninsula which comprises both states.
I’m not an American, so I think I’m a good guess . 8/16
I think you guessed better than I would have! Thanks for playing, Vidocka 🙂
Good guess 9/16 for someone who doesn’t know America at all
You did surprisingly well, Pamela – better than I would have, and I’m equally unAmerican 🙂
Thanks
8/16….didn’t do as good as I hoped!
I don’t know how you identify half of them! Look at those states in the midwest – they all look like they were cut out with a cookie cutter!!
Well some…like Florida, California and Texas are pretty obvious….but the others are more difficult! Agree about them looking like they were cut out with a cookie cutter though!
14/16 – not bad for a Brit! I don’t know what is meant by “Baja California Sur” – that’s new to me. What does Sur mean? Presumably it’s the same as in Big Sur?
You did much better than I would have, John, that’s for sure! I have no idea what is Big Sur, but the peninsula of Baja California is divided into two Mexican states, the southernmost being BC Sur, the final word meaning ‘south’.
Thanks for the explanation. I understand that Big Sur is in California and is the origin of the novel title “A Confederate General from Big Sur”.
I did better on this one. 13 correct. ; )
Oh, you did: well done! So many of these (and others I didn’t include) look very ‘boxy’ to me – and similar to each other. We don’t have any straight-line borders in the Olde Worlde 😀
7/16 not bad
Not bad at all! Thanks for playing 🙂
Most Welcome.
Great quiz. Got 12 out of 16. For a Canadian, I think I did pretty good considering that I never visited any states in the U.S., not even Florida.
Well done, HG! That’s a good score 🙂
Thanks. I love quizzes.
Great! I’ve a few more like this you might like too, at https://virily.com/entertainment/check-56-amazing-quizzes-wide-variety-topics/ 🙂
Got 12, missed a couple that I thought I knew so I guess in the end I should have done better. As always thanks!
You did well, Doc. It’s difficult for me, as a European, to gauge how hard this might be for an American. Those straight-line borders look mighty strange to my eye 🙂
I mostly missed the ones from Canada and one from Mexico. The US states I got because when my kids were little we had a US Puzzle mad.
9 out of 16 – much better than I expected!!
A lot better than I would have got, I’m fairly sure! Well done 🙂
9/16 for Stephen on this one too!
Aha, well done him 🙂
Halfling
Halfling is probably better than most non-Americans! I would have scored a lot less than you 🙂
Thank you
got 15 out of 16 right!
Amazing! Congratulations, Edith 🙂
Super fun quiz! I got 12/16 I am pretty proud of myself, I did better than I thought. Thanks, Norman!✅???
Very good, Gina! I was curious to see how people would score in this quiz, because I know I would score very low 😉
I Got 10 out of 16 well nice post.
Well done, Hamza 🙂
Thank you!
