A Blackbird is often a gardener’s best friend, except when it comes to Strawberries. You can put bird netting over Strawberries.
I always tell them I don’t mind sharing fruit, but leave me some too!
The Blackbird follows me around when I do the garden and it seems to smile at me. He is a lovely friend and looks for worms, slugs, snails or other bugs to eat.
Don’t put down poison on the garden, Actually encouraging them more and doing more gardening, the snails and slugs get less in number.

I don’t know about that, I told a Blackbird off for leaving deposits on my car, it was spring. The Black bird picked up a matchstick cherry on the tree and threw it in my hand.

They’re highly intelligent and could mimic human words …
however they can also become a problem in our food area …
I suppose they could be but you can also get a black bird to work for you. Just needs training.
A very tame bird.

Yes Fortune, the Blackbird is listening to something that humans cant hear. Birds can hear insects or worms in the ground. Their ears are sharper than humans. Thanks for your comment and observation.
What a great photo of the blackbird. I had many nests of blackbird babies for the first time this year in my yard.

my father (a biologist by training) studied Red Winged Blackbirds one summer. I still spot them when I am out and about!
