New opportunities and a new year!

Earlier in 2017 a former co-worker decided to open her own dog grooming shop. I used to work with her about 10 years ago in a very busy grooming shop near by.

We were around the same age and really got along well. She was a new groomer and I have been grooming for years. She used to compliment me on how I handled the dogs and customers, especially when we were super busy. I never thought much about it. You never know what impression you make. We kept in contact through Facebook.

I had recently moved back to my hometown from Florida Shortly after I moved back I got an IM from her asking if I would like to manage a new shop. I of course agreed. It took a lot of planning and we had to find the perfect location. She lives in a small town Northeast from me and wanted the shop to be in town.

A few months ago another IM arrived, she had found the perfect little place.

Here are the before pictures below.

We took out that wall and made it an open concept. People love to see their furry family members being groomed, without and dark back areas. There was a grooming shop here before us. We needed a whole new makeover.

We took up the linoleum floor and replaced it with tile.

Here is a very basic sketch of what it will look like.

The wall on the left is where the existing wall was, we made it a half wall.

Four grooming stations, the front desk and the waiting room.

So far we have this much done..The painting has now been finished and the orange area is now white.

The style we are going for is going to be Rustic Lux. The colors will be white and blue.

The wall on the left will have a misty mountain scene that I will paint using the subtle blues and greys.

Here is the front desk which I will paint a stressed blue grey and white, and my new boss! This front desk is an antique and super heavy, it will be turned like the plans look.

Here is looking out the front windows. These windows reach from floor to ceiling and are the store front. All glass! Check out the door handle.

Meika, my wolf dog had to come up to approve the new site.. Camera avoidance, I get it. I don’t like it either. lol

Aha, there is her face!

And a view from the side walk.

The building was built in the 1800’s, and is part of the historical part of town. I love it. Next is a panorama.

Walking down the sidewalk that is shown above you come to the end and cross streets.

Turning around and looking back up the street, there is this really cool building at the end. It used to be a burger shop and is now for rent. It is zoned for food, I hope someone rents this soon. It is so cute.

Here is my new key. I love the blue paw print.

More updates will follow.

Here’s to a New Year and New Beginnings.

I wish you all a Happy 2018!

  1. Wonderful, Kim! I missed this post somehow 😮 This place looks great. Nicely located, a fine building, and two ladies who know what they want and how to go about getting it. The very best of luck in this project 🙂 Looking forward to more pics as you progress.

  2. Indeed 2018 is starting brightly — I am happy for you and I hope the business will flourish. My cousin has been dreaming about this kind of business because she loves dogs. Good luck…many wishes for happy times

    • Thank you Lorso, not going for the home look, but more of the modern warehouse look crossed with rustic luxe. Blue, is my favorite color and looks great for a salon with baths, and white aspen as accents. There will be wood, wrought iron, and a white picket fence. lol I hope it works.
