The great comment debate

I would love to start this post with good news, but no new posts. Please email the admin team and let them know you support those authors awaiting approval. PS, Ghostwriter suggested, and I think it is a great idea to include please and thank you in that email to the admin team, so I did with mine this morning. It is wholly your call, but I thought it was an amusing idea.

Sharing is caring remains a force on the site, but at this point, it is one of few bright spots views are down to the same level they were earlier this year. We have seen the cycle traditionally as the EU vacation cycle starts. I suspect lights will tick up a little come next week as that vacation cycle ends, but the reality is we don’t know at this point. There are still many views on the site, but now they are more focused on older posts with newer posts taking 3-4 days now to reach 100 views. I know many authors never actually reach 100 pictures, so take your peak views and see how many days it take you to reach that number (be it 40, 60, or whatever name the top views you get on average).

My friend said I could share phase 2 of his project today, so I am doing that. Last week he told me that I shouldn’t comment on any post where the person didn’t comment on mine as well. I tried, although I did comment on a couple of posts that never returned the favor. He is curious as to if there is an unwritten contract with the users of this site. I don’t think there is, but I am doing as I am gold. I am supposed to stay this course through the end of August. He is looking at my comments and posts and tracking the impact of comments. I am begrudgingly doing it now, only because my friend is explicitly asking me to do things differently, and I promised him I would adhere for August.

We shall see how that goes, I know I don’t like the concept, but I am doing what I promised I would do.

Have a great weekend!

  1. I don’t comment that often unless I’m really wowed by the content. In general, I’ve felt like the only reason some people comment is to increase their “virils”/points. At least at some time in the past, I think that was true. If I’m going to make a comment, I want it to be genuine.

    • First thank you for the comment.

I would argue in fact that comments are part of a community. That we comment on authors’ works that touch us, but that we also comment to gain perspective.

yes there was a person that rose very quickly on this site being a seagull commenter. (comment and move on, often commenting on 40 posts in a day, but never replying to the comments left for them).

    • i can understand that – my friend doing the study was concerned about the 30 to 1 commenter. He asked me to stop commenting on their posts and honestly, i realized what a waste of time it was of mine, to read and comment on someone whose sole purpose was promoting their own posts.

  3. You said me to tell you if I have any problem with publishing my articles. That moment comes. I have two articles on pending, one for about 15 days and the other one about 6-7 days. I don’t know why it happens. And the other problem I have is that I can’t find my referral link. Help me, please and thank you!

  4. Posts are posts because they are posted, but comments make them postered, leaving new posters on the post, decorating the post with post stickers on that post.

Comments help to push the post to first past the post….😃

  5. I have made a conscious decision to write. When I was enthusiastic and legally trying to get the site boosted and my posts ranked it upset some members. Now, I just write and or comment when I feel the urge to. There are already several dozens of pseudo specialists getting the site management into some shape of conformity around here, every site has them

So, my Instagram, Twitter, Tumbler, Pinterest, LinkedIn, and a few Facebook fans from way back read my stuff or don’t. and that’s cool. Management pays a few pennies, and I tell folks about it, as was the custom on Virily. and NO, I don’t have a GOLDEN CONTRACT with Virily. If they shut down, hey, another one bites the dust… And on to the next site.

  6. Humm, you guys should stop clicking on awful posts! Doc, it must be a huge burden being told when you can comment. It makes me wonder if you are saving them to comment after your friend is done. Do we know your friend?

    • my friend is a long time lurker here. He doesn’t write. He is a professor at the University of South Carolina, but he is doing a huge study (funded by the national science foundation) on the impact of the internet and in particular the impact of social media (and by extension sites like this),. It is for 10 days (he wanted me to do it for a month).

    • Here is why he asked me to do this.

There were two authors on this site, that i was commenting 30 times and they wouldn’t ever comment or comment on 1 of my posts.

He asked me to stop commenting on their posts.
One responded with a nasty comment and then disappeared.
The other has begun commenting on my posts.

not sure that there is an impact,. I still read, upvote and share all the posts ii loveto read.
