As the summer starts to end, some of the plants and butterflies are leaving. I captured this Buckeye butterfly on the butterfly bush bloom earlier.
I know they will return in the spring. First as a caterpillar then a butterfly will emerge. Still hard to see them go. I know it will be the end of their very short lives.
I have a plaque my sister gave me that says… If nothing ever changed, there would be no butterflies.
Such a true statement and reminder that there are changes in life we all must endure.

I never get tired of your butterfly posts,
if nothing changed then none of us would be here to begin with
Yes you are right Alex. It is just nice to think of the metamorphis the butterflies go through.
sure, that’s probably a more pleasant take
Life is really a single struggle, dear Carol
Yes it is indeed my friend.
A great plaque from your sister! Love that quote!
Another lovely photo! Butterflies does a lot in their short lifespan …
for one, they help pollinate flowers!
Thanks and yes butterflies are very important and they also lay eggs for more butterflies.
Good one. I never knew some butterflies have such a short life span. Only a few days! Boy, am I glad not to be that specie! Lol
Thanks, I have learned a lot over the years.
Butterflies are free!
Ever since you started posting pictures of them late spring, I look for them every day on the walk. You’ve inspired me to stop and watch their beauty!
That is great to hear Doc. Thanks! 🙂
Wonderful shot! Yay, happy butterflies to you! That one sure is pretty and that white butterfly bush is sure a hit with them… interesting.
Thanks Kim, I know they are on their way out but I am still enjoying them.
Very nice. I’ve only found them a few times and the photos I’ve gotten were not that great. Nice work.
Thank you Gary, it takes a little patience.
Life is a gift from God , but life also has some goal.
And butterflies are just a gift that I enjoy. Thank you.
I think the way butterflies view the world is different from us. Maybe for them a day is like a month. And true, change is necessary and for our own good.
I agree, and always believed that about butterflies. A lifetime is different to every species.
Metamorphosis is such a deep powerful phenomenon. ?
Changes can make us beautiful. ?
Hopefully a few days aren’t perceived as short by butterflies, but then comes the saying “it is better to live one day as a lion than 100 years as a sheep”.
You are so right, life is all about change. We have to accept change in order to survive.
Good to see you!
Very well put. I love that quote!
Isn’t she just the best Kim!
That is the saddest part. Butterflies have a short life.
Yes so I enjoy every second I can with these beauties.
I didn’t know butterflies lived for such a short time.
Sadly it is true. Some other countries, and in the rainforest they live longer but not here in the US.
I always love seeing the butterflies of the season and it feels sad when they drift away. I don’t know how the butterflies behave in this Florida climate but I know I do not see many and I am sure they have a different cycle here.
From what I have read over the years, it should be the same in Florida as here in Tennessee. Some species live a little longer than others.
It is rainy season here and butterflies are not around much.
Good you do see them eventually.
I have almost no pictures of butterflies and I always enjoy yours with great pleasure.
Thank you so much! I love all the butterflies.
Beautiful buckeye butterfly, thanks for sharing.
Thanks, appreciate your comments!
Really beautiful photo Carol……..
Thank you so much Pam!
Well for some butterflies such as the Monarch Butterflies can live up to 5 months, but most Monarch Butterflies live from 4 – 8 weeks. I don’t know the life span of other Butterflies
The ones around here do not live long at all sadly.
Life is in a continuous evolution. When something disappears … something else takes its place.
Yes it is my friend, just hard to lose anything.
