Excited when I found these tiny blue Chipping Sparrow eggs in my honeysuckle bush awhile back. Chipping sparrows are smaller than house sparrows. Very striking little birds.
Sharing the photo with today’s Nature Tuesday challenge.
Amazing where some of the birds build their nests. It is tiny and nestled in the foliage of the honeysuckle. Often times, the eggs do not survive as they are exposed to many predators. But thankfully these three eggs survived and fledged from my yard.
Miracles of nature all around us, just take the time to look. Another photo below of a chipping sparrow in my cypress tree. Hidden very well.

I see a lot of sparrows around here, but I never saw their nests nor their eggs. Great find.
These are not the brown house sparrows. Look closely, the chipping sparrow is unique, it has white on its head.
I have never seen such blue eggs in my life. so cute.
Thank you, right in my backyard.
Like Doc at first, I thought about the blue birds. Unfortunately, I’ve seen this bird.
No bluebirds but birds like I have never seen this year.
For a second, with blue eggs I was thinking blue birds.
These are lovely – as always you’ve captured this perfectly!
I wish! They are never in a nest and are solid blue. Thanks Doc.
What beautiful eggs and bird…I have never seen this bird.
The only way to get more birds here and encourage them to live is to get rid of all the cats that kill them
I happen to like cats a lot, I am not sure how to teach cats not to kill birds.
If I see one stalking birds they get told off and sprayed with water but they come back later.
Thanks Pam, the blue caught my eye of course. You cannot teach cats anything. 🙂
My cats stay indoors, so that helps.
Just lovely shade of blue which would make a great poster on your wall. I have to admit like many of your other commenters that I have never seen blue eggs. But that is what living in the city with a tiny backyard means although we have hares, raccoons, deer’s sometimes…
I have ordered it, we will see. Love the color too. Yep, you have all the predators.
These are rare. I have a big garden and somewhere there must be nests. I hardly get to see them.
I saw more nests this year than ever. Very cool.
you love blue eggs, don’t you?
Yes sir I certainly do. It just happens to be the ones I find. There are other colors out there but they must be well hidden.
or perhaps blue eggs love you?
That is a nice thought, I’ll take it.
how else do you account for it?
I am learning to accept things in life without explanation instead of sort of fighting against. Embracing it. This is one of those things. Thanks for the confirmation.
Baby birds are always a wonder to behold. Love the blue eggs!
Yes they are so cool to watch for sure. Thanks!
I have never seen this type of sparrow or blue eggs.
They are striking to see in the yard. Remember the bluebirds I posted about had blue eggs, the robins do as well.
They look like eggs for Easter.
Yes they do right! I love the blue ones.
It’s the first time that I saw a blue egg. They are amazing! I don’t know if I already saw a Sparrow because I don’t see a bird often so I could not distinguish one from the other.
So very good to see you! A busy lady I imagine. Thank you, I research the birds. Many lay blue eggs.
Beautiful blue eggs,I have never seen blue egg, thanks for sharing.
I love the blue ones and many birds lay blue eggs. Bluebirds, robins and others.
Those eggs are beautiful. Are the babies noisy?
Yes they are beautiful. The babies got little noisy right before the fledged. I think the adults remind them to be quiet, their survival instincts kick in. Good to see you!
By the way, have you ever seen baby birds?
Beautiful picture indeed.
Thank you much, I appreciate your support.
An absolutely perfect picture of the nest; and a great hidden shot of the sparrow.
Thanks, I never know what I will find in my yard.
I almost did not see this sparrow, he was small and hidden really well.
Lovely! new eggs, new story?!
Thanks! Even though this happened earlier in the season I think it is a new story. Never told it before.
I am thinking of having the egg photo printed for my wall.
I don’t see why not, it’s a very unique colour of eggs
Thank you again for always being so kind.
Very interesting color of eggs, my dear friend … I have never seen them and sparrow probably doesn’t
I thought they were robin eggs but the nest was so small and I saw the specks on the eggs, and then the sparrow, so I knew what they were.
The chipping sparrow was a new bird for me to see. I usually only see house sparrows.
Only house sparrows live here, dear friend
