Macro Monday – Have You Ever Seen A Fruit Fly Really?

Macro Monday – Have You Ever Seen A Fruit Fly Really?

Before I took a few photos of this fruit fly I had no idea what they looked like. They were just these annoying little dots floating around. And, it wasn’t easy to find one settled for long enough to get a picture. For reference that white surface is the edge of a plastic spoon. The reddish brown color put it into one of two groups but there are so many fruit flies that I could not make a firm identification. I think you would need a microscope. I take macro photographs primarily to aid in identifying creatures; or, just to see them for the first time. So, now I know a little better what a fruit fly looks like and it’s an interesting creature. Thank goodness I won’t have to chase one of these around until it stays still for a second ever again. That was a challenge for sure.  I hope you enjoyed this look into the macro world!

Oh, I am insanely curious as to why my tags don’t work. Does anyone have an idea as to what I am doing wrong? The site is a little under documented for many details like this.

  1. Never seen a fruit fly before… or maybe I have but didn’t know it was that.

Thanks for this pic. Now I should be able to identify them better.

For the tags, I can add tags with evert post I create. I would contact customer care so they look into it if the issue continues.

    • This is the first comment here that made me laugh out loud.
They are annoying. When I took this I had too many apples for a moment. I keep the ones with bugs and give the good ones away. There were more than fit in the fridge. They disappear quickly when the fruit is gone.

    • Hi Doc, It doesn’t have anything to do with me or my browser. It’s the same for everyone. Believe me I checked “operator error’. Just have a look around the posts – you can see if there are tags or not. Thanks for trying to help.

          • They are there: I copied them. You will find them at the bottom.

This is good to see because this way you know where to look. The #’s don’t show when copied.

          • We are powerless however from the outside. And, often people managing things will just take suggestions as criticism and someone suffers callous treatment for suggesting. Not having tags is better than whole posts and pictures disappearing so I should count my blessings.
I have a caustic and dark sense of humor sometimes – I wore a Life Is Good T-shirt to work once that said “Half Full” with a picture of a glass. No one believed it. They said, “Full of what?”
This tag thing though depends on someone upstairs making tags or no tags decisions. To find my posts – go to my page I guess. They don’t belong with the others. (shoot, there I go again)

        • I know you are trying to help and it’s appreciated. I just don’t believe anything will change no matter what. Users shouldn’t have to sort this stuff. It causes misunderstandings and at the end of the day we will not hear from Virily, we will not have tags that work (they were turned off deliberately most likely), we will not have an explanation, and like I said nothing will change. Really and truly, Doc thank you for all the help you have provided everyone here already and thank you for continuing to want to help. This is just going to be a giant exercise in frustration. Someone from Virily needs to help or say that they won’t, that they want it this way, that, at least temporarily, they don’t care. Really, thank you. I don’t want to be feeling bad about stuff. I can accept whatever; but, I can’t believe that anyone representing Virily cares about me one iota. You and the other users here are as nice of people as one could ever hope to meet. You probably had existential Virily crises like I’m having now many times and you’re still here fighting and helping and posting. Someone from Virily needs to have the guts to say the policy. Stand up. Don’t pit users against each other.

          • Oh, and I’ve come to believe that the tags, or absence, have little or no bearing on outside views. It’s just internal. So, an inconvenience. It will pass or it won’t. We can’t affect anything here. I want the Virily founders to be successful in some way even if it just means pump up the page views and sell. They deserve something for all their efforts. I wish them well.

          • hey I completely understand. Helping and not being mean about it is a goal of the overall community, right!
I have 30 years of IT experience. solving computer problems is kind of my hobby.

        • This reply went to the wrong place – operator error** Doc, (sorry Grace)

    • I put them in the box but they don’t appear on the posts. This seems to be true for most everyone. You can see them on some people’s posts. But also my posts don’t show up with other posts that are tagged. Like #MACRO MONDAY

          • Thank you for your advice. I shall continue adding tags. Verified users I notice have many advantages. Their posts are posted without moderation and hence they appear the moment they are published. They can post on topics dedicated to days. Our will go past that day as moderation normally takes a day or two.

Never mind. I shall patiently wait to get that ‘verified’ tag (lol)

            1
        • No one minds the post coming on the wrong day. That was always the case before any verified users. They have been here the whole time and deserve some privileges. They kept the place going. The tags should be fixed. But be sure to note that the day counts in the title and when we see it we know and it’s fine. Do not stop posting those because they might appear late. Everyone is happier if you participate. Surely!

          • With a hash tag. Right? He is a verified user and may be because of that.

And as for posting on topics that are dedicated to days I have enough of my own topics to post on and so may not do those yet. For 45 days I am here I have already written almost 100 posts and there is no dearth of ideas as far as I am concerned.

    • Yes, it is fun to have an image to blame. I have so many plums right now. I’m trying to freeze a bunch as fast as I can. The deer eat the ones that fall on the ground. That’s something I didn’t know was how much deer like fruit.
      Cheers!

  2. I remember as a kid that on Nightline during the 80’s that fruit flies were going to invade the US and devour every fruit tree in the country. I don’t see how anyone watches Nightline now without Ted Koppel.

    • I’m not seeing any tags on your posts Linda. If you remember what they were you may want to test them and see if your posts turn up. It’s not a big deal – I was just curious. 2 years ago tags worked for me but not any more.

      1
        • I went to the “Topics” section and verified that my posts are not there with posts of the same tags I used. Since I wrote the post I have realized that only “verified users” have working tags. Nobody else does. Oh well. I’ll just wait. Apparently you need to put them in though (Grace mentioned that).

        • I have to assume that if they are rebuilding the site then fixing old stuff is a moot point for them. Building new is cleaner and they are probably busy enough doing that. The page views since March are way up. It’s going in a positive direction. The site’s survival may be at stake and they are doing the right things maybe.

        • The situation here is a bit untenable with the Star Bellied Sneetches running amuck. Most everyone has left – I thought I would stay to help, but maybe we’re just here to view posts by a few who can post ad nauseam and we will provide page views but have no support and get no answers about the changes. I am honestly still wondering if I will be paid because it hasn’t happened yet and apparently somehow that changed but is not documented anywhere. We’ll see soon. I have lessened my content contribution to the extreme – getting paid might help.
