Today is November 1st. The eleventh month of the calendar. Do you know the meaning of November?
The month kept its original name from the Latin novem meaning “nine” which marked it the 9th month of the year in the Roman calendar. November was named during a time when the calendar year began with March, which is why its name no longer corresponds with its placement in the Julian and Gregorian calendars. It became the 11th month of the year with a length of 29 days when the months of January and February were added. During the Julian calendar reform, a day was added to November making it 30 days long again.
November’s birth flower is the chrysanthemum. The birthstone for November is the topaz.
And now you know the rest of the story about November.

Pixabay photo. I hope you are right.
November is my birth month… yeheeey!!! I am going for another year soon.
Happy Birthday a little early. 🙂
Very interesting. Romans did many great things. My surname is from Moresby and now “Julian”. A Roman name from Julius Caesar. July is from Julius Caesar, the month Im born in. August is from Caesar Octavian Augustus. So is October, the 10th month.
I had no idea about the meaning of ‘November’ but I did know about July. It’s one of those uninteresting months for me but since we are having good weather I am ok with it 🙂
That is cool trivia, thanks for sharing Pam.

Happy November! But for me November also brings sadness. It is the month of my late husband’s names day. In Latvian tradition, we also celebrate names days. It is the day your given name appears on the calendar. His was Nov 10. Then also memories of when we were together in Latvia and celebrated Latvian Independence Day which comes on November 18 and in between all of that the death anniversary of my beloved dad when I was just ten in 1967 on November 15. Ain’t it grand that all of this quickly whizzes me into the Christmas season? SIGH
So sorry. December is that month for me, when I lost my son. Hold together to the forever memories. I like to whiz right past Christmas for a new year.
Many virtual hugs to you Carol for your sadness too. We just have to go on and know they are with us and ever close by.
I love the autumn colors and the reflections in your photo. Happy November.
Thanks, had to share form Pixabay. Good to see you.
