I don’t mean to offend but, the twins used to do that when they were young. Or start with a disingenuous comment, “I thought about this comment for a while because I know sincerity isn’t welcome here.” I want to point out that there are two sides to every story, and that half the story was shared, and I will end there. I replied, but I suspect that the reply isn’t coming. I am moving on anyway.
Lots of good responses to the survey yesterday and one comment, in particular, caught my eye. There was a fascinating comment, and I want to expand on that conversation. The concept is simple; the site would hire professional editors or site authors to serve as an editorial board for the site. It is an exciting idea, and I want to get the communities thinking on the topic in the comments. My original plan was a group of authors who work to help the site create guidelines. The change is that the site could hire these people to do this. I wonder, based on the current revenue model, that the site would do that. But that isn’t fair of me. So I don’t know if the site would or wouldn’t hire people in that role. I am sharing that in a new poll today, this focused on this particular point.
I can see both sides of this issue, so as I said – what do you think?
I will rework the poll overall and share that in a couple of days. I am going to do the new system (this one is most important to me) when I republish the post.
There are many great ideas in the community; of the last poll, most of those ideas didn’t come from me. I share the views of the city, and if they make sense to other people, we push them on to the admin team. If I were going to share my ideas, I would share my original post. The goal is to create enough friction that people will comment on and consider.
So please comment on the idea shared today or comment on a new idea you’ve had!

Hello, Doc! This is my first comment after a month or so. Thanks to the FB group, I got interested in this post.
Anyways, for your first question. I believe telling half the story is like lying by omission… or I think in journalism, the article is deemed false by omission.
That’s what most news outlets are doing here in the Philippines anyway.

Hmmmm juicy discussion 😉. So, is half a story a lie? Just like many other things in life, such statement is subjective not relative. Depends on context of usage. For example, if you say: “I am Doc Andersen, a poet and a writer.” The statement is true but it did not mention that you were also a former teacher and a tech expert 😁
International half-truths are lies. Your example is a good one honestly. The reality of the lie is the intent of the lie.
If the person gains something than yes it is a bad lie. if they omit something by accident it is still a lie, just no negative intent!
Oh, if we will talk internationally, then we are bombarded with lies everyday of our lives 😉😂

all of those are the way children hide offence without hiding it.
when adults do it, it is sad.
I think based on the site’s revenue they should hire authors to do the editorial work. It would work good resending posts to drafts to be worked on by the author unless they can make some minor edits instead of reverting the submission back to the author.
And, barking dogs don’t scare me. The ones that scare me are the daring ones which when you pretend you want to pick up a stone and throw at them, they run away.
The barking dog on this site just bores me now. a vicious bark that is quickly silenced is not something I worry about.
I don’t think the site is making anywhere near the money it used to.

Currently, it isn’t making good money. I think for now they’re floating with the hope there’ll be a lot of advertising when the Pandemic slows down.
they get paid wholly on views which other than the internal have stayed pretty steady (external views are the same roughly as they were last year)
Then there is hope things will get better.
i think they are making money and continue to do so or they would have closed the site during the no ad period five months ago.
It is good to stir the pot, but who are the ones putting the real veggies into it, as that will be what makes the soup taste better for all of us.
We can offer the Admin our carrots to add to the mix, but they must be prepared to add them to the mix, otherwise, the soup will not taste any better for its writers.
the reality my friend is that we offer more than just the carrots. We offer all the veggies. We are the site soup. The admin team is the pot and stove.
The three do not work independently.
I agree with you there.
We are the meat in the pie, as well as the pie itself. Our readers are the eaters.
The Admin team just provides the table, chairs, plates, etc. for us to eat our pies from.
The sauce is perhaps the comments people make on/about our pies.
i like that, sadly we have some writers who add flavors to the meal that aren’t good for everyone (more focused on themselves).
Yes, giving us indigestion, or worse, sometimes, and headaches, for the Admin team too.
ergo the seagull analogy in my other post, the seagull choose only to flavor with what it deems sincere!
A certain number of edits per month would be nice if it were possible; maybe 2 or 3 per month. I also like the idea of site authors versus hiring professional editors.

Those professional editors would dip into our pay, lol. Hell, and that already ain’t enough, lol

i do agree with both your statements. It is the flaw i see in trying to get posts moderated for content and plagiarism

sometimes is always a good addition!
They need to take all the inactive links off..Contact us…, Drafts, and info about emailed editor for corrections is they aren’t going to do them.
These things just look BAD for new people considering joining the site and makes them look ignorant.
no new people can join right now, but it looks bad for people that read stuff here.
I just hope that everything changes for the better. Right now I am thrilled with my dashboard.

We need a simple direction I think. A set of rules and guidelines.

Same here, I read that “some” are submitting too many requests to admin. There can never be too many if you are not getting an answer. My opinion.

It is not an original idea to use “barking dogs” in the title!! 😁😁 Dogs bark as a form of communication. If a dog barks, there is a reason why. Maybe he really gets bored of seeing the same things all the time!
I see well slightly differently. I stood up for you both times you posted barking dog posts and actually answered your title and article with a legitimate dog response.

Let’s be fair here – you were one of the people I was begging to stop using the edit button the way you were. I published 5 articles in that time period and you picked the last one saying I was wrong.
It wasn’t just me that was nervous about the edit button. Honestly please either apologize or stop stop viewing and commenting on my posts.

This is exactly why we need the Edit key. Look at the Title.

the problem was the impact on the site. The short term value for the site as we got people excited about old posts. The long term reality was it impacted views for everyone else.
I don’t know, I mean we should have a front page with the best stuff, not just the newest. And I guess I could see going back to article 7 and sprucing it up… but if there were xyz views well it was a good article.

If the Best Stuff is on the Front page it will attract viewers.
Let’s suppose someone logs on today. They see the hate stuff by Fifi and are gone. But what if they saw really good articles… maybe posted last year or last month… but the highest quality.

Well written, interesting… taken from different genres.
On a particular site where they had about 5 Mods they’d put forward the items they felt were the best… The items would be out there and the views would determine stay or go.
There were items which stayed up for weeks because they were really good.
There are few items here I read… whether trash writing, boring topic…
Niume used to do that – but it was by the community (top post by views, top post by comments etc)

Chris, the tech genius that created the site was a good friend of mine. when he died i stayed for two months but I knew the site was dead. No one else could do what Chris did.
I was briefly on the site…must have been towards the end
We had a great site, and a great community. Some of them came here, some scattered to the winds.

Was it the loss of your friend that caused the collapse?
Chris was a genius but he was one of those developers you had to have someone falling around and writing down what he was doing.

no code descriptors
no architecture
no one else knew how he built the site. When he died, it died very fast.
I know what you mean. He prob. assumed everyone automatically knew these things
i am sure, or like many who are genius level thinkers, he didn’t think like the rest of us.
