Interesting information. The rate and amount of data moving on the internet are higher now than it has been in a long time. Most providers see a 20% or more surge from this time last year. And in many cases a 20% surge to some of the highest traffic ever on the internet. The evolution of traffic is fascinating. The internet is a series of round and unrouted connections. If we type an address in http://myfunnywebsite.com (that is not a real web site) or if we type in an IP address http://199.1.1.1 we are taking or routed to a website or web site on the internet. The second address is how you get around what is called the Dark Web. It is called the dark web because it isn’t rooted.
For the odd site name I typed in above, you enter that in your browser window. Your computer has what is called an IP address. The IP or Internet Protocol is a structured system that allows resources and servers to share information. The speech, as we know, is called a URL or universal resource locator. When the URL is entered, your computer knows to ask a DNS, or Domain name server, where the URL is. The DNS may know, or not. If the DNS does not know, it sends you up the chain to a more authoritative DNS server. That is how information is found on the internet. From there, the site may load information from or to your computer. These are sometimes called Cookies.
The reason for this is to help everyone. When there are more people on the internet (and right now there are many more on the internet most of the day), the internet is slow. Slow means that the information exchange (sometimes called a handshake) between the server you are connecting to and the computer you are using can be delayed. If a site you are connecting to is prolonged, consider the number o people on the internet right now. Take a breath and let the server you are talking to do the same thing. The good news is that the internet is still functioning fully. There are not currently providers forced to shut down sites and servers due to traffic. Check with your ISP (Internet Service Provider) to see if they intend to do that as the load continues.
Remember, there is a human being on the other end!
An interesting fact from an Adult Learning class I took: did you know that praising adults by name, actually is the most effective way to motivate those not mentioned and praise those mentioned by name! Ault learning theory says that interacting with and praising adults by name is the most effective way period. Referring only to the generic (community, group) is the least effective way to praise adults!

Thank you. This is good to know. Sometimes we either have slow Internet or no Internet. Each day that I can wake up and have Internet access, I count it as a miracle. LOL.

I have not seen much of a change because my internet provider is Xfinity. It must mean that it was always slow.
probably was always slow, the fastest inhome wifi as they advertise doesn’t mean the fastest internet overall.
Well… most people are using the net these days. There’s almost nothing else to do. It’s 2 PM here and the summer heat is blazing outside so I have to let my sons watch youtube the whole afternoon.
Anyways, here in the Philippines, I’m quite used to slow connection hehehe.

Back when I utilized Facebook a lot more than I do now, I experienced the slow moving browser.

we are still carefully walking every afternoon, but for now we are all packed into the house during the day.
I would most likely be thoroughly cleaning my apartment or weeding out stuff that I do not need if I were stuck in my apartment

Internet is slow as well here in our area and it’s kind of frustrating.
i suspect in most countries there are most like 2 or 3 times as many people on the internet all day, than usually are on!

Since people have started to work from home in my city my internet speed has reduced. But it has not slowed down so much that I can’t work.

i had to move some files to a cloud service on Sunday (the internet was really slow so I thought I would wait, that was wrong).
overall it is going to be slow for a while. i set my file transfers for overnight my time!
I agree it is going to be slow for us here as well even though the service provider has promised that it will be better from tomorrow.
i love it when service providers do that. It will be faster. Hah!
it won’t, it has nothing to do with your computer to the provider. It is a provider to the web service issue!
I occasionally have problems with slow internet. My carrier says Wi-Fi is also partly responsible for this. Is there any truth to that?
can say yes, and no?
it really depends on how your wifi is setup.
plus how many devices, how far you are, and how good the wifi “router” is.

it can be sometimes, but sadly it often isn’t them using an excuse. The reality of computers today is my favorite line I use when customers ask me.

Over here it is because of the weather. It takes eons for a site to load even though it is showing 4G. But it’s not that bad.
Unless on is not from earth, unity is an important factor in the survival of humanity.
i think a system to get information out is critical. 4g would be slower than wifi in many cases.
Sadly over here data is preferred than wifi. In major towns you can access 4G.
In rural areas it’s 2G, 3G or H+
i do understand that the situation, the infrastructure in Africa needs improvement!
I have been noticing that the internet was indeed slow this past week. It makes sense since the internet is a form of entertainment. We have kids all at home doing school work on the internet. People working from home and those that are bored just surfing the internet. And I forgot all the kids avoiding homework and playing on the web, games, etc.
That was an excellent tip thanking people by name. The problem with calling your ISP for help or support means you get connected to someone in YaBaDaBa Land that does not speak English very well and you cannot understand them!
