My side project of reading commenting and double sharing is over. I will share the results of that later!
I have had a Macintosh computer again for the past eight years. Before that, from 1996 to 2012, I did not own a Mac. Before 1996 I only had a Mac. I had one of the very first Powerbooks, a Macintosh computer running on the PowerPC chipset. Now, the MacBooks use the same Intel chips as Windows computers, and that brings the cost down. But there are two reasons why I still have a mac.
- You can’t easily create a Macintosh VM.
- I have tow mac based programs that I use a lot
The first issue is something that apple played with (allowing other companies to make Macs back in the 1990s). But you can’t easily make a VM or Virtual Machine with the macOS. Based on that, I have a physical Macintosh computer.
The second is there are two programs I use on the Mac that are not available for PCs. The first is the iMovie tools, and the second is one I won’t talk about here.
Over the years, the Macintosh went from the computer preferred by graphic artists to the mainstream computer. There are sadly enough Macs now that it is no longer a virus-free operating system. As smart hacker attempting to break into a computer most likely makes their malware in the order listed below.
A personal computer running Windows
Perhaps computer running macOS
A personal computer is running anything else.
Now the funny th8ing is, the numbers of computers drive hackers attacking. Nearly 1.1 billino computers are running a version of Windows in the world. Many fewer Macs and PCs are running other operating systems. I don’t have a favorite; this blog today was written on my Mac. I sometimes connect to Virily on a Mac, on my Windows-based PC, and sometimes on a Linux based VM. Sometimes when I have issues with Virily, I try another browser. If that doesn’t work, I try another computer.
But the only thing I will say, each of the computers I use, has something awesome about the computer. I would end with that!
- macOS – easy to use doesn’t require as much memory, and the apple upgrade process is so simple!
- Windows – easy to share with other people, better integrated with web meeting software, and I use that all the time.
- PC running a flavor of Unix or Linux doesn’t require much memory, and there are a lot of interesting tools you can run!
Both Linux and Windows support free “virtual machine managers.” You can add one to a Macintosh, but there is a cost.
Overall all three work well. I would be down to two computers (work laptop and home computer) if I could run a VM of MacOS!

You are speaking a language I don’t understand and sadly, I am okay with it. I just use what my nephews bring and I am happy.
that is what Nephews are for right?
I have never had a Mac. I have always had Windows, people say Mac is better but I do not know why I have never been a big fan of Apple. Many people buy IPhones but I have always had other kinds of mobile phones, perhaps I am not cool enough….
i would honestly say they are equal. both do one or two things really well.
Ok. This is new because I have always heard that Apple us slightly better.
there was a time when they were, but I don’t that is the case anymore. Both have interesting value propositions now!
Mac computers are very expensive as us the case with apple smart phones in my region. Windows is favourite as it is cheaper.
I have come across Linux program but very long time ago.
I had windows 98 will be done with? I love it more than windows 10.
i remember deploying windows 98 for customers and having to apologize. for how bad it was.
I have a laptop and a desktop, both Windows. I’ve never used Mac. I use the desktop for my gaming and for doing stuff like writing on Virily and suchlike. The laptop I use mostly for watching TV an films.
my laptop is a work provided laptop so I only do work stuff on it! I do the same for either the desktop or the mac. depends on which one I have on.

interesting that Mac and Linux are the lowest on the survey.
I have a laptop (Windows), but would love to add a desktop soley for stationary writing purposes. I’m contemplating upgrading my Asus laptop before my semester starts because I have put a lot of work in on it since purchasing it like 2 years ago from a small used laptop place.
I am always playing with and tweaking my laptops. My only rule is backup everything on an external drive.
then if I blow up my laptop it doesn’t matter.
Would actually be sweet to tweak this one up to work faster. I would like to do something with my built in mouse because its trash.
the easy thing to do,
1. make sure you are updated.
2. optimize your disk drive
just those two will speed things up
I may have a software update lying around somewhere, but I will play around with it.
the number one thing is update your PC!!
Right now I have just my desktop PC and Windows 7. I sure hate it when they scare me as I am writing important articles online. A blue screen comes up to remind me that Windows 7 will no longer be supported and I keep clicking remind me later. I wish they’d stop doing that.
they can’t, it was part of the original consent decree back in 1998. I would see if your hardware can run windows 10, win 7 has many many holes.
isn’t mac still using proprietary hardware?
you will have to define proprietary.
they have USB
they have HDMI
they have intel chips
the uniqueness of the apple world have moved beyond mac only for the most part.
(SWIM chip by Woz is the magic of the mac). Swim chips are on most pcs.
now their os is also not unique, it runs on a Unix kernel now.
I know they have a Unix kernel, but can you install the OS on any old mobo with a big endian CPU or does it still have to have special hardware, like they used to?
in theory, the OS can be jailbroken and used on any hardware. The specific encryption that they use (please note this is a rumor I don’t know for a fact) is supposed to be in the CMOS code on the motherboard.
I have two laptops and desktop but all use Windows. It would be interesting to try Mac.
i like the mac, it works well and is good for creativity!
In our country, Windows is most used. This operating system is already loaded on the computer when purchased.
i would say most people buy computer/os together. Some of us geeky people don’t like that. I don’t have the commercial windows on either of my two Windows PCs.
The mac is closest to commercial, but it has some modifications as well!!
I have always wanted to try Linux but it seems intimidating.
with some of the new flavors (Mint, Ubunutu) you aren’t running a command line. They actually have a GUI (graphical user interface) that works really well.
I’d like to try it at least once to see how it works.
are you running windows 10 on your computer now? if so, you can try having a second OS on your computer as a Virtual machine!
(unless you are running windows 10 home, in which case you can’t i think. I will check that.).
Thank you, but I am using an older version of windows.
well then it doesn’t matter! if you ever upgrade, you can run a program that lets you host VM’s (Virtual machines) and can run a flavor of Linux to try!
You know I am a happy Mac user. No Windows for me any more.
i don’t blame you, i actually like all three.
I have to admit to a lot of ignorance in such matters, despite having worked in high-tech companies for much of my working life (Hewlett-Packard and Marconi).
you probably remember when there was a lot more fervor (Mac User vs PC User). but the reality is I am not sure there is as big a difference now.
I know some people used to be completely devoted to Macs, although I have never used one and do not therefore know what the fascination was.
They (Apple) started out in the school and artist worlds. So many kids who grew up only have used apple computers.
artists were heavily invested in Macs back then.
Early in the say 1990s, Adobe would release its critical art platforms (Illustrator, Photoshop) on the Mac 5 to 10 months before a PC version shipped.
