Continuing with a new series of the strangest facts about each one of the United States.
Kansas
1. White Castle is the very first hamburger chain to be started in the United States and it began in Wichita, Kansas. Interestingly enough, there are no White Castles currently open in the whole state.
2. What does a horse lie down on during surgery? They lay on waterbeds specially designed for them if you are at the College of Veterinary Medicine at the Kansas State University.
3. Of course the state is also known for the Wizard of Oz, crazy tornadoes, and those tall, beautiful sunflowers now grown around the country.
Kentucky
1. Bowling Green, Kentucky may seem like a no-name small town with nothing happening, but that isn’t entirely true. If you ever owned a Corvette, it was manufactured in this town.
2. Corbin, Kentucky is another little known town that is actually known for one big thing: Kentucky Fried Chicken. The very first Colonel Sanders chicken establishment was opened right here.
3. In 1893, birthday parties were given new meaning by two sisters out of Louisville. These sisters were responsible for singing “Happy Birthday to You” for the very first time. It has changed the way we celebrate birthdays to this very day.
Louisiana
1. There are almost half as many alligators as there are people in Louisiana.
2. Louisiana’s waters are home to 117,518 oyster reefs.
3. Tabasco sauce is still made on Avery Island today, where it was first created in the 1860s.

I didn’t know Tabasco sauce is still made on Avery Island. I like this series full of new facts for me.
Yes it is my friend. Amazing. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tabasco_sauce
The corvette museum is also just outside Bowling Green!!!!
my mom met the owner of the dealership that started the museum many years ago. we got a private tour!
I remember when the sinkhole happened a few years ago. Would like to visit.
he lost 5 or so vettes into the hole.
sad. but that part of the world has a lot of caves!
Yes some are gone forever.
but new ones are forming every week! Rumor is that Mammoth cave and Floyd Knobbs cave may actually be connected.
There are almost half as many alligators as there are people in Louisiana!!!! This is incredible, it must be a rural state then. So you have to be very careful in Louisiana, don´t you?? Incredible.
I know for a fact there are tones of alligators from living there. You do have to be careful around the water. Most of the state is below sea level. New Orleans floods all the time.
Do alligators attack people???
The alligator thing is scary. I’ll be on the lookout for gators when I run NOLA Marathon next year
They are everywhere Thomas. Enjoy the marathon!
The White Castle thing is interesting. Hell! They can have the sh*tty ones we have in Chicago
Yes, I am finding out things I did not know.
I’m enjoying learning facts on the states of America.
So glad to hear that, I am learning as well.
Very interesting facts. I really used to enjoy eating at White Castle now when I can I get the frozen hamburgers
I buy those sometimes as well. Glad you enjoyed reading.
I’m most surprised about the fact? Where are the horses during the operation. This is really very strange.
This is what I read on the college website: Waterbeds are used for horses undergoing surgery at Kansas State University’s College of Veterinary Medicine.
I was also surprised but thought it was great for the horses. Very comfortable I am sure.
Some very interesting facts, the ones about alligators in Louisiana and the birthday song impressed me the most.
Yes and I lived there and can almost vouch for that one. There were many around.
I also never knew the original of the birthday song.
Is this where you swam with them?
No, and that is funny you remembered. I swam while I was a child growing up. I lived in New Orleans as an adult.
It was an impressive and memorable fact.
I knew the history of Tabasco … two days ago I was looking at Nacional Geographers about the origin and history of Tabasco
That is a coincidence. I learned all of these facts.
I like your post and this is a good idea.
Thanks, it is fun to research.
What about ABC of food or insects? LOL
Interesting facts btw 😀
That Sound interesting, thanks!
I don’t know much about US, so I was glad to read your posts!
I hope you are learning, I am as well!
