Sharing a surprise visit from a Northern Cardinal on my deck feeder. This was taken months ago when we got a light snow. If you look closely you can see a sunflower seed in his mouth. Took the photo through the patio doors.
My Dad loved these redbirds, as he called them. We would talk every day and birds was one of the main topics we covered. I miss those days.

Just love this capture of this one of a kind bird. I love to see them. Doesn’t it mean something about a visitor is near.
Thank you, I love seeing them as they remind me of my Dad. Yes, they say when you see one, a lost loved one is visiting you.
This bird is so bright! I can see the seed
Yes the males are very bright and glad you see the seed!
Wow, I saw that seed in his mouth!
I love this photo!
Cool, I love watching these birds, and all of them actually that visit the deck feeder. Thank you!
Yes I can see a seed in her mouth!
That is great. This male is looking at the camera behind the door!
So the bird is a male, I mistook he for a female 🙂
Yes this is the male. They are always brighter in color than the females. You know how those guys are. They have to do something to attract the females.
This post reminds me some thing very special i cant forget. Thank you for the post
That is great to look at a photo and have good memories! You are very welcome.
good color for attracting a mate, but wouldn’t it also attract predators?
Not that I am aware of, nothing any more than any other birds. They are very careful birds and often hide. This is why I never found any of their nests, only saw the babies. They also never migrate. They stay in my area year round. That probably helps in their survival rate.
predators generally have binocular vision and color receptors as well
That bird is so pretty. I like the red colour We do not see it here.
They are usually only seen in North America. Thank you!
I understand your father that he loved these birds. They are really something special.
Yes he really did and every single time I see one I think of him, always will. He had a lot more than I do.
We don’t have this bird here! It’s very beautiful!
That is too bad, he is one of the most beautiful. Especially in the snow.
But you have some we do not have.
Great picture, dear Carol … how beautiful is red
Thanks, yes the male cardinals are known for their bright red color.
Many use these birds as Christmas cards.
Thanks for the explanation, my dear friend … very interesting … nice congratulations
You are welcome and I am always happy to do so.
That’s a perfect cardinal picture.
Thank you, how very kind of you to say. I love these birds.
I had this one framed and it turned out good actually. I was proud of it.
Beautiful snow cardinal dear, thanks for sharing.
Thank you for the visit Hina!
Also thank for all of your visits, always good to see you.
Oh, I am glad it is not snow now. That would be shocking. It’s cool seeing cardinals – we don’t have them on the west coast.
Wishing for snow in July with 100 degrees outside! Love these birds.
Very nice photos Carol.Thanks.
Thank you Robin. Thinking back to the cooler days.
we had 9-10 cardinal nests along the backline of our property in Indiana. I miss those!
Amazing. We had two nests somewhere this year. Never found them but saw the babies!
I have pictures somewhere. loved seeing them flying around!
You will find them one day and post them perhaps.
i will someday, once I get through dad’s, grandpas and so many others.
I may look this weekend if I find time.
