Sharing my first Monarch butterfly of 2019! I have been waiting on these beautiful butterflies all summer. It is usually August before I see them. They seem to wait until the temperatures are really hot before they show up.
This one was camera shy at first, it took about 15 minutes to get this photo. But well worth the effort to me. My day has been made, once again in Dustin’s garden. A very special place.
The migration of the Monarch is something special to learn about. I have talked about it before and might do another post about it. Nature has so much to offer, I keep saying, the little things all around us.

Your garden is lush with flowers and winged visitors! A beautiful shot of the Monarch.
You are too kind to me, but I thank you very much. This one I have waited on all summer.
Beautiful creature. Fantastic capture, Carol. It was worth the 15 minutes.
Thanks, I have waited weeks to see this beauty! I think it was worth 15 minutes as well.
Aha, there we are!! You had just said you hadnt seen any yet. Looks like they are right on time. Happy August and day for you! Amazing how many miles they travel.
Yes Kim I finally saw one. So excited could hardly hold the camera still. The migration just makes me shake my head in awe.
It is amazing how such a small creature creates such joy. It also amazes me to see their migration, just like hummingbirds. Amazing!
Yes it is another incredible event of nature that I am just thankful to be a small of.
If I’m not mistaken, this type of butterfly lives in our country as well, but I haven’t been able to paint it yet … great picture
This is the first one here this year. Love seeing these.
In fact i am missing the butterflies these days
They are on the decline all over sadly.
Lovely picture once more. We don’t have cold weather at all , so the butterflies are here all year round.
Thanks Dawn. What types of butterflies you see?
the viceroy is smart, it gets all the benefits of monarchs without the toxic diet…
You make a good point.
hats off to mimics, who get the best of both worlds
I though only birds migrate . Did not know butterflies do that too.
The monarchs migrate because of the cold weather… https://virily.com/virily_poll/magnificent-monarch-migration-day-355/

Maybe I will do a post on the migration.
I meant to say another post. An updated one perhaps.
You got another wonderful visit. I don’t think we have these butterflies.
I have been waiting all season to see this special visitor!
I really wish I cold bring some of these beauties to visit you. 🙂
This is a very beautiful Monarch Butterfly, I am aware of the migration of the Monarch Butterflies but it is always great to see them from another view point. I live in a country where they don’t really migrate. Do you get to see them migrating at once to Mexico?
I was so excited Pam to finally see one. I see the videos about the migration to Mexico. Would love to see it in person.
Oh yes, I would Carol…That would be really great. Thanks.. I got 4 butterflies this winter..
That is too bad Pam. If I could, I would share mine with you.
I always envy you for having such beautiful visitors.
You are kind, I feel blessed with each winged visitor.
