Another day, another post for Kim’s challenge August Just for Fun. It’s easy to participate- just make a post about plants, or animals, tag it #jff and you’re in. But, make sure to click on purple letters first, just to check out, in case I forgot something.
After my lamentation over losing my tomato plants, it would be fair to tell you what has happened next.
All those thick clouds and heavy rains have passed but I lost every hope that anything would grow in my garden. Still, I’ve never stopped throwing kitchen waste on a parcel of soil, in order to make compost, to use it next year. That morning, I threw some waste and pick some grass to add it to a pile, too when something caught my attention. I saw previously that some cucumber plants were blooming, but they seemed too small to and weak to grow some yields. Oh, how surprised I was seeing three ripe cucumbers and several babies!

I feel great when you create your writing from the cucumbers.
Thanks for those kind words. 🙂 I feel great when I eat them. 😀
Sure that your cucumbers deserve all praise!!!
I am more than satisfied with them. That’s why I left one enormous cucumber to dry seeds for the next year. 🙂
Nothing is trivial if it brings us joy and especially not food that grew for us. It is a big deal!
You’re so right. I want to grow as much vegetables as I can according to old ways, when food was both tasty and healthy. 🙂
Notwithstanding the incident with the tomatoes, you are off to a good start.
Thanks, that means a lot to me. 🙂 Next time, I’ ll post something about my pumpkins. 😀
Nice looking tomatoes. I have grown some too.
Splendid! 🙂 I like the natural way of growing food. 🙂
Great job on these beauties. Wow, they are big. Mine always turn out about the size of my thumb.
Your cucumbers are perfect for pickling, though. 🙂
True, they are that size. Would fit perfectly in a small jar. 🙂
Do not worry about the swine because of the tomatoes – even the cucumber was taken from me by the devil, but they were well fed
I am pretty proud on my cucumbers. 🙂
Our life’s journey is our footsteps to pick “coincidences” and learning from all opportunities. You have done it well.
I wish you were right, my friend. Still have difficulties when it comes to accept mortality both for animals and plants. For me, waste is waste and I can’t help myself not to feel sorry for that.
I could understand it, but we can replace something that already gone, right?
In a way. People and pets couldn’t be replaced, but that doesn’t mean we won’t love another ones. Those who passed away will live in our memories, till the end of our lives. 🙂
Naravno da su dobri.Pozrav.
NICE, i love cucumbers though, really, really healthy
Yes, they really are. 🙂 Especially when they are treated with 0 chemicals. 🙂
When you lose an opportunity, you have your eyes peeled for another one. It could be the ”new’ one was there all along but you never noticed it because it was eclipsed by the old one
that’s how I always parsed that metaphor
And that seems to be the right way of interpreting this. 🙂
I have a similar interpretation for “when the student is ready, the teacher will appear”
As I can see, you have many wise sayings explained. 🙂
I try to understand the koans, they’re linguistic puzzles
This year too, cucumbers have given me excellent results
A lot of water caused cucumbers to taste sweet and juicy. 🙂
I was wondering if the shape of the cucumber meant it might be bitter instead of sweet?
Lack of water causes bitterness, I know that for sure.
I love cucumbers sliced thin and seasoned with sour cream, fresh dill, thyme, black pepper, and sumac.
It sounds similar to our salad called tarator. 🙂 For this one, you need to chop cucumbers and garlic and cover them with yogurt. Adding herbs turns it into tzatziki, famous Greek salad. 🙂
Yes, I love tzatziki!
The cucumber looks delightful! Gardening can be a travail!
You’re right for both things. 🙂 Still, there is a lot of pleasure in working alongside with nature. 🙂
Congrats on your garden. We always had one growing up and I loved fresh cucumbers. They are good sliced and in vinegar.
Yes, I love them that way, especially on hot days. 🙂 But, cucumbers are also tasty chopped and mixed with garlic and yogurt. 🙂
Is that a Serbian thing? My husband love me to make them that way? I think his mother did.
Yes, it is. 🙂 This salad is called tarator. 🙂
Never had them with yogurt, interesting.
You should try it, Carol. It’s very tasty. 🙂
nice post thank you very much
Thank you for reading, Snezana. 🙂
It’s important that they have them, they’re excellent and everyone else will be better.
In the end, everything turned well. 🙂
I like that type of small, bumpy cucumber very much. Here we can usually only get much bigger, smooth ones, with no flavour at all.
You are right Norman. For some reason the small ones are packed full of taste.
Everything is better concentrated in small packages, right? 😀
Yes! Me, for instance 😀 😀
….. or me. 😀 I am barely over one and a half meter high. 😀
Trust me, these ones taste like heaven. 🙂
Ma odlican je .moze da prodje za sopsku salatu..
Uh, da….. Ili za tarator sa kefirom. 🙂
Uf,da..i belim lukom..delishes.
Why do cats jump when they suddenly see a cucumber?
I thought it was because of the shape, resembling a snake. But I tried it with my and she didn’t react at all 🙂
Exactly. The only reaction I got is eaten cucumber. 😀
My cat just ignored it completely!
I don’t have such experience, with my cats. Give them a cucumber and they will eat it, simply as that. 😀
