Hummingbirds are the tiniest bird and very challenging to photograph. This tiny wooden homemade perch leads down to the deck hummingbird feeder. It was a great idea to attach the perch. I didn’t realize at the time how much the hummingbirds would enjoy the perch.
They will get on the very end of the perch and look back and forth, making sure there are no other hummingbirds trying to get to the feeder. Very territorial birds.
This is why I have two feeders up each year. But the same thing happens, they will chase each other off from the feeder. They are so entertaining to watch.
This one is called a Ruby-throated hummingbird. The male has a bright red spot on his throat. Very pretty in the sunshine.
I have many trivia hummingbird facts to share and maybe I will do a quiz soon.

A quiz on hummingbirds? Haha, I don’t see why not!
Just that I won’t share my poor score … :p
Bring it on baby! Should I study? lol Love this shot. 😉
Ha! No studying for you. You will ace this one as usual.
Thanks, I was lucky to get this one.
sorry, forgot
WOULD LOVE a quiz!!!!!
Working on it. Start studying. 🙂
Well I am going to start right now!
One of my friends has a large yard (around 10 acres) and has around 10 or more hummingbird feeders.
She invested in the slow-motion wildlife cameras. She actually captures videos of the hummingbirds coming to the feeders with the slow-motion cameras. so cool to watch!
I have seen videos from Cornell with that many feeders. That would be a full time job keeping them clean and filled. But it would be so worth it to see the hummingbirds. And I too would get a slow motion camera if I was going to go those extremes. Wow!
She actually studies birds (Ornithologist?) at North Carolina (sad I know 1 tar heel)!
Agreed Hummingbirds would be difficult to photograph. This applies only to others. For Carol, they all happily pose.
Yes because they are so tiny and lighting fast! Some other birds are elusive as well but most are easier than this one.
I agree Carol. You certainly have the right temperament for bird photography. Not at all easy to capture any bird, leave alone the elusive Hummingbird.
The image is quite good. You got the tiny guy very well
Well thank you very much, it was exciting.
You are right, this bird moves so fast it’s hard to capture her!
Yes I got lucky with this one for sure.
Your quiz about hummingbirds will be a kind of class increase test for me.
I am working on it and it will hopefully be as easy as pie. 🙂
Love that brilliant color around his neck and throat.
Beautiful picture. Bird watching can also be fun.
Thank you so much, you are always so kind. I love bird watching.
Never seen those birds in my life. They seem very beautiful and interesting.
They are so tiny they will fit in your hand. 🙂
Unfortunately, this wonderful bird does not live with us … very beautiful picture, dear Carol
Thank you, too bad you cannot see one.
The next time I go to the zoo, I have to look at it if they have it there … let me at least see it live
I have never seen them at our zoos, but it would be cool if you had them there.
I know about it only from bird encyclopaedias. I did not see it live.
That is too bad, you would enjoy the bird.
I have never seen a real humming bird except photos…Very interesting birds
I wish you could see one Pam, they are incredible.
Maybe if circumstances allow….
Indeed, that is a good attitude.
I am badly missing Hummingbird since long time , don’t know where did that humming bird gone ?
I don’t think you have them in your country, do you?
I think No , People says they went back to north Canada or Serbia
They are always here in the US in late spring through later summer.
