Hummingbird Perch

Hummingbirds are the tiniest bird and very challenging to photograph. This tiny wooden homemade perch leads down to the deck hummingbird feeder. It was a great idea to attach the perch. I didn’t realize at the time how much the hummingbirds would enjoy the perch.

They will get on the very end of the perch and look back and forth, making sure there are no other hummingbirds trying to get to the feeder. Very territorial birds.

This is why I have two feeders up each year. But the same thing happens, they will chase each other off from the feeder. They are so entertaining to watch.

This one is called a Ruby-throated hummingbird. The male has a bright red spot on his throat. Very pretty in the sunshine.

I have many trivia hummingbird facts to share and maybe I will do a quiz soon.

  1. One of my friends has a large yard (around 10 acres) and has around 10 or more hummingbird feeders.
She invested in the slow-motion wildlife cameras. She actually captures videos of the hummingbirds coming to the feeders with the slow-motion cameras. so cool to watch!
