One of the things I’ve switched to recently is braided versus standard USB cables. I think I am harder on ables than other people. But the braided cables are stronger and don’t have the issues I often run into. The issues I have experienced with USB cables are fraying and separating (where the end pieces separate and no longer fit snugly. I also find the number of USB cables you have to have to be annoying. The devices I use all the time require me to carry three different USB cables (Lightning, the Apple charging cable, SUB -C for my Samsung phone, and finally I have a micro USB cable to charge my headset. The reason I take them with me is the time frame I am gone.
Normally at least 10 hours. That is the amount of time I am gone. I have a connection/charger for my iPhone in the car. I also have a charger (USB-C) for my work phone. But the problem is I often park my car and go into a building. Based on that I have a couple of extended life batteries that allow me to charge my devices anywhere, but I need the cables! I have tried some of the multicables (smaller and have multiple charging types), but those don’t always work. I have tried some of the wireless charging options, but you still have to have that charger with you. The reason I am bringing this up today, beyond the fact that I haven’t complained about USB ables in a while, is simply a curiosity.
I realize as I try to clean up my office area, USB cables are one thing I have a lot of in my office. In part because I am always afraid to go down to only one cable of each of the three USB cables I use frequently. The other reason is I have multiple devices for each of the various cable types. I need more than one each cable to change everything quickly at home. On the go, I need one cable, I am willing to risk running out of power for a device when I am on the road. Because of this, I was talking to a friend of mine recently. He and his co-creator have embarked on a project to create a three or four in one USB charging cable that will be braided and will allow you to charge all devices equally from the single USB port. I will let you know if they decide to embark on this journey or not!

I have a lot of cables I don’t use. However, I have been doing some other organising around home at the moment
i really need to clean my office! I decided to start with the cables!
I have two huge bags of cables in my closet. no such thing as too many cables…
there you go, I have a filing cabinet full of them. HDMI, USB, ethernet way too many cables.
I’ve got some thin BNC, coaxial, CAT5, full duplex, and power cords for things I don’t even own anymore…
power cords for things I don’t own check
cat5 cables check
I am taking mine tot he high school on Friday!
your collection beats mine quite handily…
i am not sure that is anything other than a dubious honor.
still better than dishonor…
well there is that – still at some point I probably should learn how to do a art project with cables!
go for an installation piece. get Howard Faxon to help you!
I suspect Howard would get frustrated with my less than average art skills!
but think of all the dad jokes…
This piece of art isn’t going to like itself!
I suspect the result would be something scary. that you would then turn around and use as a background.
A cable octopus!
one of these days, I will post Mecha Cthulhu!
Please –
and its strangling evil trees!
plus, four arms have chain saws.
I love this piece!!!
wow, you really went there…
in fact I did, probably should have stopped one comment before.
not to my way of thinking- that reply delighted me
my concern is a delighted Ledante will have more time to devote to evil laugher and the LHO!
a delighted Ledante tends to create whimsical LHO, while the darker emotions generally produce more sinister results…
Then let us entertain the Ledante with an DDJO!
distributed delight job offer?
Nice try

my forces can’t hope to resist such an attack
Ok, I will have to admit. They are annoying, and yes they always come loose from the end thingy on it. You end up moving it left, right, up, down, Aha, theres that light…. finally. The charger in my car quit working. So now I use just the computer to charge. My son uses the plug in at the wall. My mom uses hers by her chair to charge hers. I do like the pretty colors they come in, is that what you asked? 😉
I only have two colors of USB, braided (which is a pinkish color,) and not braided (which is a dark gray/black).
where are you buying such color cables?
I haven’t bought any of them. My son and daughter in law give me the extras. I have a neon green one, and one that fades into rainbow colors. 😉
Colored USB cables, what is the world coming to 🙂

1.5 amps is required for the new fast charging phones!
I was wondering that. TY! 😀
Devices will now tell you if the charging is slow (not 1.5). FinallY@!!!!!!!
We keep arguing about the number of cables lying around our home. Hubby keeps getting more of these because he forgets to put then in the car or in the office. :/
In his defense (since I do the same thing) its ok. But my wife says to clean up the office and get rid of the extra cables.
The reality is, I have way too many.
I have many cables at home too. I throw some really unused ones, and keep those that we might still be using, and still there are a few hanging around in the home. I guess there are too many devices at home now.
I think we have many devices, I would love to see all the companies agree on either USB-C or the Lightning cables.
(no matter how you plug-in devices with those two cables it always charges. You don’t have to have the cable in only the one way).
I would be very glad that I could only have 1 USB cable. Now I use quite a few.
I would as well, although one cable- 3 of them. One for car, one for home and one for my computer bag!
In charging phones, we never use more than 1 just for safety.
but do you have more than one cable that can charge the phone?
Day by day we are adding more digital devices in our lives. So it’s hard to get read of these cables.
The future is digital!
I would just love one standard USB plug going forward.
I have 1 USB cable to charge my phone and 1 for my computer
Thanks pal! Always interesting when we consider the global reach of Virily and the reality of too many cables.
I don’t need them anymore …. you know I only use basic stuff, my friend
that is very fair! Yes, I do remember that you keep things very simple!
I find it as simple as possible for me, dear friend
Oh no, never really get rid of them. As soon as you do you will need them.
sadly that is the logic I’ve been using for a long time. I have 20 USB cables that are the same. I think, I can reduce to 10 or fewer!
Okay, but when you can’t find one I am going to say “I told you so!”
you have a deal! I am starting today!!!
You could take up macrame? A nice plant hanger… some wall art…
hum. another country heard from. Sadly the election is still too close to call…
If you had anything but woven pink or grey black you would be inspired…
I am someone, as you know that struggles finding things in pictures. Color really doesn’t motivate me!
I have my laptop and cell phone chargers.
between wife, kids and such, we have so many cables. Time to get rid of some
