what lies behind the mast?
Is it someone that we know
or a stranger hidden behind
the mask? The snow falling
behind us as we pause.
Do we dare pull the mask? Tug on the strings
that bind it to the back of the head and
pull the mask free
of the face. Do we dare?
or worse as we stumble and wonder
do we want to know who is there?

Love the poem Doc. Great picture to go with it, and I loved what Pixie said. Couldnt of said it better. 🙂
sometimes when pixies land the result is good. Sometimes when pixies land it is best to run!
lol Not that little pixie, she always brings sunshine and happies!!
well there you go, step on her pixie toes and you get a face full of pixie dust!

I have never written poems. I have written stories that rhyme but not proper poems
I am sure I’ve read those stories over the years! Thanks! I bet you would be an amazing poet!
So how old is this poem? ? Would be interesting to know.
Mask. Ahhhh, every single person has a mask he or she wears depending on his or her audience. There is a mask for acquaintances, another for kindred spirits, another for friends, another for family – – – and likely another that is known only to the person ?
it is around 40 years old, maybe a little older. The mask then was being a teenager. Perhaps the scariest mask of all!!!!
I keep a lot of old things. But I don’t write poems. I liked yours…
i understand that each of us are different. Keeping old stuff is good, most of the time, right?
I keep folders of all the things I wrote over the years on various sites. Some of them I revamp and post on other places and some I find I knew too little when I began and I only jot notes about information from them I could use and then toss them. It is interesting to note that even poetry I once wrote I would not consider good today.
i love your system, honestly, you should write a post about how you do that! it is inspirational!!!
Well sometimes. I try to keep track.
that is very important sometimes!
Oh, and have you ever played twenty questions?
i have but it has not been in many years!
Oh yes, another question, do you ever throw anything away or do you keep it in some form?
Doc are you here? I was asking you a whole lot of questions, but there are no answers. I thought it was funny to do because of your cute title.
it was funny sorry I missed these!
i often throw things away.
Are you a saver? I save way too much!
Here’s the next question. It is customary to say “goodbye” when you exit and conversation?
only if you are leaving at the ending!
I was thinking that as well.
Okay so you know that all I have are questions now and of course I feel like they should be answered. So it is correct that no one can join the site now?
as far as I can tell but I do not know for sure.
i would go with yes it is an unanswered question
For the last 20 years or so I’ve stored everything electronically, both poetry and prose, but all my writings from an earlier period are no more – lost due to my itinerant lifestyle 🙂
Norman, I am so sad you lost some of your writings. That is sad.
i understand that. I had many things lost over the years but my tub full of old poetry has manged to survive!
Those are precious and should never be lost.
or more correctly managed to survive!
it is the anonymous guy fawkes mask
Unfortunately, I’m not talented for writing. I had trouble writing at school already.
i remember struggling in school with a lot of things. it is not always fun!
School ~ that was a bumpy ride.
I enjoy your writing very much @vidocka.
It is always great to share good news.
I have written poems or stories but not shared them here. I like what you wrote.
i started writing poems many years ago, This one is probably 40 years old maybe a little older than that
I am not talented and have never written a single song, dear friend
i think you have more talent than you give yourself credit for my friend!
I don’t think so far … I’ve never noticed that he had any poetic talent
you are a very good photographer! that is art as welL!
Thanks for the kind compliment, dear friend
I have always wondered what lies beyond. And yes I have journals I started right after losing Dustin. I still write in them.
i have some that are ancient now. Days where i was so angry and hurt. Days when I was happy and free.
sometimes i just read them to remember.
Hmm won’t it be great to know what lies behind? A known devil they say is better than an unknown angel.
better what you know than what you don’t know I agree!
