Black Night Butterfly Bush

Have always wanted a Black Night Butterfly bush in my garden. Kim and I have also talked about having this beautiful bush in our gardens. Finally got one and it is blooming! No, the blooms are not black. But like the “black” tulips I have, this flower is a dark purple. This photo was taken in direct sunlight, making it a little lighter than normal. As the sun goes down I will take another one to show you the difference.

This bush is a fast growing shrub that works well as a foundation shrub, an accent plant or as a background in borders. I am so excited about this plant and it bloomed the first year I planted it! It is doing great with the other white butterfly bush beside it in Dustin’s garden.

The photo below was taken ten days ago. You can see the blooms start out very dark.

    • Yes and it was planted in April. I cannot believe it! The wind was blowing and the sun was out but I had to try and get a photo. Cannot wait for the butterflies. 🙂

  2. Whoa Carol don’t jump over the moon (as you mentionned in your reply to Glower4). We do not want to lose you. I have to admit, I have never heard or even seen this type of bush but the color is absolutely radiant. It is a very pretty addition to your garden.
