As I had promised earlier, I sent all the comments, poll results, and posts about making our site better to the Admin team. I haven’t heard anything, but did want the community to know as promised the information was sent! I’ve noticed many posts. Lately, there has been a spate of downvoting. I don’t care if my comments are downvoted or upvoted. The same is true for upvoting or downvoting my post. For me, the fun is the interaction in the comments—the sharing of information with people. The civil discourse, as Socrates called it, two people conversing, disagreeing, arguing even, but never losing touch of the fact that they both have the right to an opinion.
As we move into the 4th of our writing site, things continue to change around us. There are a few things we know, and from there, we can push forward a little.
- The moderators of this site to do verify information, spell check, or do grammar. They confirm that a post has a picture and that it is not plagiarized (published elsewhere first). The moderators do not bless content by approving it. They simply accept the content is not plagiarized.
- The rate to 100 views for most posts has slowed. As of November 2019, posts would hit 100 views withing 24 hours. It is often more than 72 hours to reach 100 views.
- Comments and views are down overall.
I won’t go any further into the things people already know. We cannot add new authors, and that impacts the site. We do have ads back, and that is good. The ads we have again are not great.
CRITICAL WARNING: Many of the ads in the middle of the ad section are links to articles. The articles, in some cases, are on known Malware news sites. What this means is that if you click, you run the risk of picking up malware on your computer. The other thing about the ads with links to articles is that they are not validated, nor are they reputable news sources. Click with extreme caution!
The other ads are the previous what is called targeted or mined ads. These ads are based on information parsed from the post. They are more focused and usually have links to an Amazon product. These, by the way, do not pay to be on the site. The first set of ads pay to have their ads on the site regardless of views. They, of course, will not pay as much with fewer views available. Click-throughs pay the targeted advertisements. In other words, you click on the ad, and it takes you to amazon. Sites get paid for that.

Many things could be improved. I don’t understand why they don’t verify more users.
i have sent so many users to be verified. I continue to this day. Never a response.
That’s really a pity, their work would be easier too.
i don’t know, there are a couple of users that have abused being verified. it is why we have a limit of no more than 6 articles per day. Not, that in 4 years I have been closer than the 5 I did on Sunday!

Logically what you’ve said is spot on!
Reality – the site responds slowly to issues. When they do they sometimes go way overboard.
ergo the 20 viril penalties for reported comments.
The comments are now permanently gone.
We are limited to 6 posts a day because of a couple of users that abused that.
We are forced to at least 20 characters because of the NICE and GOOD comments from 4 years ago now.
They (the site) tend to overreact.
they verified some users, those users abused the system. Rather than pulling the verification of those users, they installed a limit.
I see, thank you for the explanation. It’s a pity because the long wait is frustrating for the authors.
i agree i feel bad for every single author that has to wait.
The lack of communication is very odd to me. This I would change, and also moderation times. It should only take a day or two to get approved.
i wish communication would improve.

I sent two articles to Virily last week and they have not been published as yet. This is horrible. I do not know what is happening. I will not click the links as you tell these send you to malware sites.
i am really sorry about the moderation delay. I will continue to ask as you should that they cut the time for new articles!
It is obvious that views are down and so are comments. I have noticed a low in up votes but not an increase in the down votes. People have also become very tight fisted with their reactions as well. I’ll just take these in my stride. The mods and site owners may need to raise their game plan too.
i agree – and if you look lower in this very post you will see a number of downvotes.
I would love to figure out a way to convince the editors that this is a partnership. That they are better off with us.

yes! i am always nervous when I see 3rd tier ad sites. or “newsfeed” style sites.
Thank you for the information. I am aware of what kind of ads they are and I have never clicked on any of them even when I see them on other sites.
the targeted ads (if you put the word tractor in, and you see ads for tractors, those are ok. the ones that go to amazon or other legit online stores.
the ones that advertise to you, with apparent news, make me laugh some times.

Other than the list you had submitted, they should update their about page to stay current.
we submitted that back in July as well I forgot to bring that one forward good catch!
Ok. They have many of our suggestions to ponder on. We can only hope they consider them.
well in July/August we sent them a number of suggestions (around 9 overall) they have implemented 6 of the 9.

The owners have consistently shot themselves in the foot. What they need to do is get English Speakers as mods.
That they focus on an image and not the prose is what makes this site slip down the wormhole
i suspect there are many parts to the problem beyond what you’ve listed. But the moderator do not review content, based on that, i think the site slips.
