Saturday Critters

Upload your photos with critters here. What a Critter can be? An animal, a bird, an insect, a reptile …. Let’s see all the critters in the world! For today, I have chosen Dragonflies. Dragonflies are one of the first insects to inhabit this planet. Adult dragonflies are characterized by large multifaceted eyes, two pairs of strong transparent wings, sometimes with colored patches and an elongated body. Here are some photos ©Ileana Calotescu.

#1 Blue dragonfly

Many adult dragonflies have brilliant iridescent or metallic colours produced by structural coloration. Blues are typically created by microstructures in the cuticle that reflect blue light.

#2 Yellow dragonfly

Dragonfly are beautiful and intriguing, but these ferocious predators have sharp mandibles, near-360-degree vision and can fly backward.

#3 Dragonfly resting on a tree branch

Dragonflies are in the order Odonata, meaning "toothed ones." The reason for the title is their serrated mandibles.

Saturday Critters

Since I never get to post my Saturday critters pictures, I wanted to post it one day earlier LOL . Can you see the guy in the middle. I tried getting this picture from every angle this is the best I could do.

It was one cool spider and I was so excited to get him into my lens. I have never seen such a spider before. He was pretty huge, a pea sized body but huge legs.

I was excited more because he seemed so huge and different.  The spider almost had a human face for a body or so  I thought.

  1. That is a cool spider. I have found many people that don’t like my pictures of spiders. Most all spiders are harmless to people. I leave them alone but my cat eats them.

  2. No, critters do not excite me at all. Yes do I ever see this spider well. What a cool capture you made. This spider has some of the longest legs I have ever seen. And what a stupendous body shape it has… I still wish I never meet this critter though as it looks almost dangerous… with these long legs (or maybe tentacles…)…
