I have been doing a lot of research into the impact of comments on Blog Posts. There is a lot of information that is available. The impact here on Virily is something I will use as part of the Movers project later this summer. I want to figure out if comments drive views faster. I am working through several ways we can measure that. One of the problems we have right now is there are many new writers, many returning old writers and it makes the water a little muddy. As we roll further into the summer, I suspect we will end up with more overall information. It is nice, per CarolDM that the poll issue is fixed. Polls are a part of the way I like to present my technical column.
Having only the option for Yes, decreased the interaction a bit.
The other template I use a lot is the Gallery. Galleries have improved in overall speed considerably with the last big Virily Update. Where it would take 2 minutes or longer to load the 10-11 pictures I normally share, now it is less than 30 seconds. Some of that is I have switched browsers (on purpose). Part of that is the new site. When I go back and upload pictures in Chrome, it is still faster now than it was.
The amount of code, complexity, and variables a site like Virily has to deal with are incredible. So a tip of the cap to team Virily for the site improvements!
I will write a column in detail on the overall mover’s project later on. I will, as mentioned, break the study into two distinct sections. I will also run the two sections at different times. I want to see if comments drive views. I also am really curious as to three questions that have been asked previously.
1. Does time of day matter for views?
2. Does Twitter drive more views?
3. Does Facebook drive more views?
Thanks all!

Historically, though I can’t now see if it is the case, the majority of views I’ve received on Virily increased enormously every time I answered a question on Quora. These are two totally different and unrelated websites, but Quora is very large and one of the identifiers I use there is that I’m a blogger at Virily. Thus, I have a backtrack trail on Quora and it does drive views to my blog posts on Virily.
As for comments, having more comments tends to indicate popularity and people seem more willing to look at a post that they feel is popular.
Thanks REx. I have used Quora in the past. I use MyLot more now.
Overall the problem is we don’t get the Social media referral credit anymore.
I agree. It makes it difficult to know just how much of an impact there is and how much it varies. I’ve the sort of mind that is interested in that information even if I don’t make money from it.
with the Twitter dashboard, I can tell pretty much how the impact of twitter is on the posts I share.
Facebook is a lot harder (you have to buy the analytics from them)
It is harder still to know what kind of impact backlinks have. About a year or so ago, I’d get 20-50 views within a day or two when I’d write a post on Virily. However, if I wrote a post here and then answered a question or two on Quora, it wasn’t uncommon to see a spike and to get 200-300 views on my Virily post in the same amount of time. Sometimes, I’d get even more views than that.
The only change that I was making was to follow the Virily post with something at Quora. That is hardly empirical, but logic suggested that the boost in views were coming from the single backlink I have in my Quora profile. It isn’t even truly a backlink, either. I simply mentioned that I’m a blogger at Virily. Apparently, people have made the effort to see what I’ve written here.
For that matter, when I write a lot at Quora, I also have many more hits on my LinkedIn page, too. Again, that isn’t empirical, but there aren’t any other changes.
i find the reality interesting!
I know I will get 100 views on most tech posts within 3 days.
100 views on the wander project in roughly 6 days
but within 10 days the Tech Post is normally more than 300. Interesting.
Very nice and informative article.
I am glad you found value, thanks for stopping by!
Your research would be a delight to read for sure ?

The most that I can do is poll, photo and blog. I am trying to devote more time but to no avail.
Do what you can do! Whatever time you can spend is welcomed!
not only are the quizzes working again, so are the drafts. haven’t tried versus lately…
Polls are partially working, most of the others appear to be functional. we are moving in the right direction
the turnaround seems to be narrowing as well
I agree, the time to fix is less than it has been!
and if they are more or less on top of things, we can hope that trend will only continue to improve
From what I understand this refers to the use of smartphones. I do not use a smartphone I do all of my online work through my desktop PC.
It applies to PC users as well. It is about the creation of content for Virily.
Do you know that I could not make music posts because I had no idea how to add YouTube videos I asked admin and I asked those I know here on Virily and no one could tell me. Then one day I noticed that little black symbol that looks like a video camera while posting and voila! solved my own problem and now I know how to get those videos out there. Oh, yes there is still one thing here that catches me up. I can make comments all right but when people post photo galleries if I want to comment something on each photo I cannot. The page freezes and I have to reload.
Honestly, the easy answer for posting comments n galleries is log into virily with another browser (if you use chrome-switch to IE and so on). That one is a long time bug by the way, you are not the only one with that issue.
I work mostly surveys. I have trouble answering (yes and no), I occasionally have problems loading images, questions appear several times …
sorry to hear that, it can be very frustrating…
I agree. Sometimes it’s really not pleasant to work, but I take a deep breath twice and then I easily overlook these problems ?
That is a great way to look at things!
Thanks for the mention. Unfortunately only half of the Poll template has been corrected. The answer portion. But half is better than none. I use polls for almost all posting, and a quiz every now and then.
so do i! I realized after the fact that it wasn’t 100% fixed. Was your last quiz fixed?
Very informative post, my friend …. I prefer to do surveys
Do you have any issues posting surveys?
Now no more, my friend … there were problems with the answers …. whether it was just YES or just NOT
There are still issues with the polls. Oh well.
Now there’s no more trouble, dear friend
I want to see the results of your research
I am figuring out how to write it now! Thanks!!!!
What do you mean by template?
when you select the create button it offers you article, poll, compare, ranked list, gallery those are all templates.
Yes, Quiz template has been fix as the Poll option also fixed. thank you for the detail article on the subject
I wasn’t sure about the quiz I haven’t done one in a long time. Which template do you use the most?
very useful information….
I am glad you found value!
Informative post,thanks for sharing.
