Community, it is the part of being on a writing site that keeps giving. In that sense of community, that expression of being part of something bigger, we can band together. I was thinking about the power and joy of the city, and I wanted to remind people of some of the successes we have gotten over the last two years.
- Blocking users was enable
- we had an edit button (for a brief moment in time)
- when the downvoting was terrible on the site, they removed the downvoting option for comments
That said, there were/are several things we have asked for that haven’t happened. I suspect the chance of getting the edit button back is slim. It would be nice to be able to access our drafts folder and edit items in the draft folder. It would also be helpful for us to get more communication from the admin team. I have recently gotten contact but it was pure, “we are working on site updates.” Nothing more than that nor ultimately something we could use. So that got me thinking, perhaps the best thing we as a community can consider, and offer the admins is some ideas about the way’s that the admin team could communicate with us better.
I am going to list some options in the poll. The list I have now is not all-encompassing. If you have an idea, share it in the comments. I will incorporate those and the top vote-getters into a second poll and post that I will send to the admin team. Overall this has worked several times in the past, so let’s keep moving forward and trying to do things positively!

All good suggestions from you, Doc. If the FAQ was kept updated, it would address many of the communication problems, as many of those are caused by lack of clarity in the current, very outdated FAQ.
i truly agree – i would love to see the FAQ updated…
I am still confused as to why they took away the edit button. Well, it’s not taken away, its there, it just doesnt work. If they are not going to fix it, take away the button. I am for that edit button and the quiz and poll feature to be working properly. I used to love making quizzes and polls.
The newsletter quarterly would be good, monthly better.
They have put a banner up before, the fist one was notifying us that they were doing a pet contest, and a few more after that. For some reason all communication changed at the time they took away our IM method of contacting them.
i am going to cover the missing/desired features later I promise.
i think the communication could be so much easier if they just put the banner back!
A link to the support team would be nice. The report button does not work. Sounds good Doc, looking forward to it.

If this site cares about it’s users the would talk to everyone, not just a few select ones. Well now I am past caring.

banner on the main page prior to changes and a post on the main page talking about issues are the second choice!
You have very good ideas. Any kind of additional information can be very helpful. Having an edit button is very important. I try to not make mistakes but if I do I cannot correct them and then if my article is passed on to Twitter or FB it is passed on with mistakes and that is not good at all.
i am going to focus only on admin communication for this one – improving the site again is one that we already sent them in march.
based on that am I missing a communication method?
I always believe that active admins and those who communicate with their members are a good sign that they will stay to exist for a longer period of time.
These are all great ideas and what this site needs. Else, we will be losing members here one by one.

we did send that ask in March (drafts and edit back). hopefully that is something they are working on.
I also hope that they will take our wishes into account. I hope we don’t have too many wishes.
i will make sure our asks are small when I send them later today!
I say yes to all of the above. Any communication would be welcomed at this point.
