Meeting Owl – the technology of meeting systems for rooms is expanding. I recently had a chance to add a Meeting Owl to my office. The Meeting Owl is a 360-degree camera that sitting on a table can show everyone at the table when personal speaks the Owl shifts to the directional microphone and additionally shifts to the directional camera to show the face of the speaker. This was something new ten years ago, but now several systems can do this.
The Owl is small, roughly 12 inches tall, and at its base around 5 inches in diameter. So it will fit on virtually any desk or table. I have it on my office desk, but I have also used it in my extra downstairs room for conversations and meetings. Using a portable projector, I am easily able to create a moving meeting experience anywhere I am.
Meeting Owl I tested it with:
Zoom, Teams, WebeX, BlueJeans, GOTOMEETING
Metting Owl also includes integration software with your phone or tablet. That allows you to see the meeting analytics (such as how long the meeting was, how many people participated, and so on). Meeting Owl is an extremely interesting tool.
- The speaker is of high quality.
- The Microsoft is both mom-and bi-directional. Lets you capture multiple people talking or focus on one person when only one person is speaking.
- The camera is great, HD quality, and can show 360 degrees or an entire room.
- Software is easy to use.
- The device is easy to set up and plugs into any open USB port.
- It also acts as your computer speaker!
Overall my rating for the Metting Owl is 9 out of 10.

Very interesting and useful product, and such a cute name!
it works really well also!
the name is pretty cool
The name made me smile thinking of the funny owls who turn their heads. 😀
it actually has a 360 camera that focuses on the speaker! Just like an owl would~~~~
Sure that the Meeting Owl is a real breakthrough in comfortable IT technologies for business & other socializing targets!!! Thank you so much for sharing!!!
Thanks it is a really useful tool!
A great share Doc, enjoy your new toy.

This is extremely interesting I never tried anything like this
Thanks Pam, I suspect the reality of video conferencing hardware does not apply to most folks on Virily.
Very neat. We had a very big and expensive video conferencing set up at LSU where I worked. This sounds like something more informal and good for anyone to use. Good review!
Yes Owl can replace a much bigger system, although in fairness it really only has 4 microphones embedded in the speaker itself. The big systems have Mics all over the room!
It is very interesting to hear since I first heard about this gadget. I know something new again.
🙂 Every day we learn something is a great day!!!
Enjoy the gadgets Doc. And have a great week!
Thanks Carol, this one is a time saver for me. I am focusing on tech posts for a few days. I am tired of the uphill battle of site issues.
Very interesting post, dear friend …. glad to read it only i don’t use any of it
it does require meeting software, i figured most people here wouldn’t need it!
You know I don’t need it, dear friend … but I’m interested in how the technique is progressing, but I’m lagging behind
it is hard to keep up honestly. I focus on certain areas now, and let others areas slip away.
Sounds like an interesting gadget, sounds like an advanced version of Alexa and conference calling gadgets.
IT is very similar although no voice control. Voice control would be a value add to meeting speakers@
Nice little compact gadget. Unfortunately I would never use it. Actually I never even use skype as I am not a big actual talker face to face. I do not mind communicating by text or email but face to face I am no good at. Sounds weird but that is little old me…
I can understand that!
seems nice kit , thanks for sharing
It has worked well so far, thanks!
It sounds like a useful piece of kit – but not one that would be of any use to me!
i figured most on Virily don’t do video conferences. Thanks though, it is really good!
That was something I did when working full time – I worked for a multi-site company that actually produced video-conferencing systems, so I attended many meetings of this kind. However, that has not happened since 2002!
My daughter and I talk via video chat all the time. It is a great quick way to keep connected!
This computer device seems awesome, and so very useful.
if you do the occasional video conference call or call your daughter via the computer, it is really good!
I use Facetime at times so I can see my daughter’s beautiful face.
I do the same with my daughter, although she hates iPhones so it is not FaceTime!
