Every spring I place a hummingbird feeder on my deck. Sometimes I also place one in the yard since these tiny birds are very territorial. I snapped this photo last year as one was hovering around the feeder. They are so fast, it is a challenge to get a photo.

Have you seen hummingbirds in your world?

Yes

No

While I am no expert at photography, I have tried my hand at capturing images of birds in their natural setting. So I know how difficult it is to photograph them. You are awesome with the quality and timing of this picture Carol.
You captured even the hummingbird with such perfection. Usually when I take ones of a hummingbird the bird looks blurred.
You are so kind. I used the tripod and the big Nikon camera for this one. I had to stand still for several minutes to get this one. It takes time and patience.
We see a lot of different ones here, but the most prevalent is the Annas Hummingbird. Great shot btw!
They are such a delight to see. Thanks Kim!
This bird always charms me every time I see it, also in your posts, like this time too.
Me too Albert, I love seeing them and they will fight for this feeder. I have to put up two and they still fight. Very aggressive towards each other.
What a cute little fierce!
Yes I love watching them, I will spend hours int he screen room during the summer listening to them buzz by and watching them fight, never hurting each other, just wanting the feeder to themselves.
Once again I have to say that you are lucky with the nature around you, Carol.
I’m never able to capture them … they used to frequent one of my mum’s plant … but now the plant is gone, I don’t see them at all :/

Have you tried putting up a feeder? They are inexpensive.
I do see some humming birds here but not enough
Glad you see them at least.
ever been scolded by a hummingbird?
Yes I have Alex. They can be very aggressive. I was out changing the feeder once and a hummer came around the corner, he didn’t see me until we were like eye to eye, and he pecked my head for a second.
peck the forehead is fine, peck the eyes is a no-no
Absolutely, my hard head can handle it…
still, that bird had a lot of guts going after an opponent so much larger
We won’t see any hummers until early June.
It depends on the weather here.
We do not have these birds in our land.
Sorry but you have others right?
Yes, we have some bird species but they are not as beautiful as yours. We have the most sparrows.
We have so many sparrows, I have to chase them out of my yard when the bluebirds come to raise their families.
They also make trouble for us, so we are persecuting them.
That is good to hear…..
In Chicago we only get one species, the Ruby-throated Hummingbird. I did see some other species once on a trip to Colorado.
That is the main one we see too in TN but also the Rufous sometimes makes an appearance.
I agree with you Carol. You were very lucky in capturing this beautiful little bird who flaps its wings anywhere between 12 beats to 80 beats per second (seconds, not minutes). They also have the highes metabolic rate of all the birds (no wonder with all these wing beats). Yes I have seen hummingbirds here in my corner of the world but not so much in early or mid spring but rather in late spring and summer when it is hotter. They are so cute to watch especially when they spring from one flower to the next for their daily nectar.
Your facts are absolutely correct my friend. These hummingbirds are a wonder of nature. I start seeing them in spring and they stick around until almost fall.
Beautiful picture and bird … we do not live in colibria
Thank you very much.
With great pleasure……………
Wonderful photo and such gorgeous vibrant colors!
I was lucky to get this one. They are a challenge.
You’re so happy to see this beautiful bird regularly!!! Unfortuntely, we don’t see them in Russia.
I am looking forward to spring coming again.
Very cute little bird. Beautiful photo.
Thanks, it was a lucky shot.
