Corn

Corn, in general, is considered one of the most famous cereals, originating in South America, more specifically from the Peruvian highlands. It was brought to the European continent by Christopher Columbus, and due to its fertility and versatility, it has expanded rapidly in Europe. Corn is one of the most important crop plants, many times in history it has been credited with the survival of much of humanity. Among cereals, corn ranks third in terms of prevalence, behind rice and wheat. The plant requires a warm climate and plenty of moisture. The class is in the form of a cone surrounded by makeup. A lot of corn has been planted in our fields this year. Farmers cultivate it for food and animal feed. Corn is a surprisingly rich source of antioxidants. In addition, it offers plenty of protein, vitamins B, C and E, and manganese, magnesium and zinc. Studies have shown that excellent protection against free radicals, this protection does not destroy cooking; but it is most effective in combating cancer and cardiovascular disease. Corn lowers blood pressure and blood cholesterol levels, regulates blood sugar levels, prevents anemia, and maintains sharp vision and healthy nervousness.

  1. Nice post, Lado! We call it ‘maize’ here in Ireland, as for us ‘corn’ means generally all cereals like wheat, barley, oats, etc. We grow it a lot here, but only for animal feed, because there is not enough sun to make it sweet. During the Great Famine in Ireland (1840s) maize meal was imported to help the starving people, but most did not know how to cook it properly and it often caused stomach injuries.
But I am very fond of sweet corn, as well as of maize bread 🙂

  2. corn is something I grew up with in Indiana. Indiana grows a lot of feed corn (used for livestock) and some sweet corn (eaten by humans).

I have many stories about corn fields!
