Chestnuts for health and autumn culinary delights

Autumn is really beautiful – not only with its beautiful colors but it also offers us many edible forest fruits..of mushrooms, hazelnuts and lots of sweet chestnut. Chestnuts have many positive effects on our health, so tasty and healthy autumn variegation of the menu, and picking chestnuts can be a great recreation and fun. Chestnuts are home to Asia Minor and the Mediterranean. We have the most chestnut trees in Primorska, in Bela krajina and in the southeastern part, but they grow everywhere except in Carinthia. A single chestnut tree produces 100 to 200 kg of healthy fruit. It gives birth every year, and it is especially fruitful every third year. Chestnuts contain a lot of carbohydrates, most starch, almost zero fat and about 6 percent protein. Due to its composition and richness in B-group vitamins, it is an excellent food for the elderly, children or athletes.

  1. They’re very expensive here but I try to have them at least once every autumn. It’s my favorite season because a lot of good stuff gets harvested, such as pumpkins, chestnuts and pears.

    • Thanks for watching and kind comment, dear friend…our forests are very rich in chestnuts only this year is very small so I preferred to buy it too ….

  2. I need to try some of these. “Chestnuts roasting on an open fire. Jack Frost nipping at your nose.” Oops! That’s for winter not autumn.

  3. My first trip to Paris I was out walking, just outside of Notre Dame, a man was roasting chestnuts (literally on an open fire). I bought some, and snacked for the rest of my walk!
