The path to becoming a verified user and the debt verified users owe the community…

First of all, thank you to everyone that commented and contributed to the poll over the past couple of days!

The community seems to agree on the fact that we need more verified writers. The presented range is between 1 month and three months. I suspect we should probably also include a minimum publication or article contribution. The reality of verified users is that as many of them are not currently posting on the site as the other users. The frustration with the site not working as expected has driven away users. I am not weighing in. Instead, I am more interested in what the community wants. So, I will throw out some refining questions, and letโ€™s see how things come together. I asked an interesting poll question yesterday that I got a few responses, so I thought I would talk about that part more.

It is my feeling that verified users should be held to a higher standard than moderated users. They verified, users, do not have to submit articles for moderation. Therefore I feel like they should have a level of responsibility to the site and other authors. That is one of the reasons that I write these articles, and send the links to the admin team repeatably. I believe I owe everyone that reads my posts a debt. If you comment and interact with me (on your posts and my posts), that debt becomes deeper. That is why whenever I can, I help people on this site. Other than two exceptions, I can honestly say that I have helped everyone I was able to help when asked.

The issue then is the question of if a verified user has a post pulled by the admin team, should they lose their verified status. The comments/responses were exciting, and I will net that with one comment โ€œeveryone makes mistakesโ€ so based on that I would like to discuss the concept of if it happens once, oh well, but if you have two posts removed from the site by the admins, you should lose your verified status. You can earn it back by following the same process that all users have to follow. But if your post is removed, you should lose that status. It seems to me that is the debt of the verified user to the site. We can publish anything we want, so if the admins are forced to pull it, it should impact us the second time.

As the host of coffee talk said, โ€œtalk amongst yourselves.โ€

  1. Doc, you have 341 pages of posts here, at least, and to go back even 10 pages to this one is a pain, how do we easily go back to posts made years ago??

Perhaps the certified writers are a rarefied group, given out at the beginning of the site’s days.

Is anyone still verified these days?

I have been here, around 3 years myself.

    • i suspect over the years there have been a trickle of users that moved to verified. those users number a little more than 80 now.

the first group was the single largest with nearly 120 verified writers. that was downright about when you joined.

the next group was smaller (around 50 or so) due to tot the publication problem many users had at that time.

A number have left the site forever. Some have moved to publishing on rare occasions.
But the reality is, the site still pays. so something works.

      • Yes, I did get a small “payment” for June, but as I have not reached the payout amount yet, I got nothing yet, in reality from 3 years at virily.

They did not inform writers of some of the cutbacks on earnings, the introduction of the minimum virils each month, for example, was a pain.

  3. Informing the user what is needed to become verified would motivate them to write more to reach that point . I remember not knowing when I’d be verified, then all of a sudden getting it out of the blue. The wait was the suckiest of times, especially putting out those sports writings that were verified late. I used to receive backlash for that from readers on sites like Reddit.

  4. We really should have clear guidelines. I assume some members are very confused (Iโ€™ve been around for a while too, I havenโ€™t spotted anywhere how I can become a verified member).
