The Dude and National Black Cat Day

Every day is National Balck Cat Day with the Dude. But today is an official celebration day for him.

From what I read about today, it is sort of to make up for giving them a bad reputation on Halloween, October 31st.

This time of year, many black cats may decorate many thresholds for Halloween and windows for spooky decor. However, these felines deserve the love and attention just as much as their tabby equivalents. Old notions have given these furry critters a bad reputation.

The day is about turning that reputation around. Cheers to the Dude and all the other black cats!

  1. I don’t think that the superstitions about black cats are that strong in my country, or at least the people around me. I personally love black cats.

  2. Chinese have superstitions about black cats too …
and many prefers non-black cats as pets…

but well, black stray cats get fed too 🙂
    Happy Dude day! LOL

  3. I have 10 cats and 1 is black but he’s such a fun-loving cat, much like the Dude. I love black cats and don’t really get the whole superstition thing.

  4. We will not adopt a black one out in October in our shelters. They are the least adoptable here and in England. In China they are considered lucky and other parts of the world. I think they are the prettiest. Those mini black panthers! I am glad you have your own day DUDE!! Did she give you caviar?

      • Pit Bulls have gotten a horrible reputation in the US. They often end up in shelters and not adopted.

My son-in-law has one. She is the sweetest granddog on earth!

        • The problem with pits and remember I love all animals, is that they have a natural dog aggression you have to train out of them with proper socialization and training. The owners that do not do this..these are the shelter ones, and they usually do not pass the test to be adopted. The ones that do pass make great dogs. Although my sons dog did turn on them, and me. No reason other than he had lost his dog partner the week before.

        • That is the conclusion we have come to. Poor boy just lost it. That can happen just like it does in humans. There is so much we still don’t know about “man’s best friend”.

          • In Virginia, as you probably remember from your East Coast days, there remains a huge dogfighting problem.

There are many dogs, that are treated so badly, but they make the news when they attack a human.

In some cases, it is the dog’s fault. In some cases ,it is the human’s fault

  5. I cannot say I have ever heard of the black cat day. But, what difference does the color of the cat’s fur make? As long as the cat has a personality that fits the human that is adopting it. You have to forgive me. I have a very soft spot in my heart for all animals, but especially those that no one else seems to want. I love black cats. I have had three in my lifetime and they were all sweet.

  6. I used to have a black cat with just his paws white and a speck on his chin and chest. His name was Putting on the Ritz after Midnight. Midnight for short. I loved him so much!

  7. Well hello Mr The Dude. I certainly do not mind if you are black… you are such a pretty sight for sore eyes despite your blackness… Bring on along Brendel…

  8. Well, I get on with most cats and they make it their business to come to me, black or other colour… However if I see them stalking birds, they get water poured over them….

    Lovely photo of Dude
