Love ItLove It

The comment monster ate my homework and making writing sites better.

The concept o responsibility. As a community, we are bound to nothing. We, as authors, have no stake of ownership. We are what is called in the US, a 1099 employee. We are paid, but there are no benefits other than the platform to share on that comes with our being on this site. Or, for that matter, any of the many places that pay money for authors to contribute. We get money, they get advertising revenue and we go from there. So this post is a gentle nudge for some people. The first thing is the reality of PM’s (private messages) that have been sent on this site. No one should ever tell you that you have to comment on their posts because they say on yours!

If I followed that rule, I wouldn’t comment on ½ the posts I read. I say because the author connected to me or I connected to the work. I do not require that people read and comment on my posts when I read their posts. I don’t read the posts of some authors because I don’t have time. I wish I had more time, then I would go back to reading many more authors, but for now, I am limiting my time to 20 posts.  If someone sends you that PM reports them to the Admin team right away. The other thing is offensive posts. We are a community if a number of you are offended by posts, you should be reporting those posts to the admin team, we must keep our site moving forward.

support@virily.com to report content, and users that demand you comment on their posts.

Nudge!

I will tell you that I am struggling to stop at 20 posts read a day. There are days when I have to go searching for jobs. But lately, there have been 20 new posts a day!

There were not enough responses on the poll last week, and because of the poll monster, I suspect I will need to repost the two options, so I am doing that today!

If you open this post and you find that the poll monster ate the nos and you want to no-no, please note that by refreshing the page, you will be able to see no!

  2. That one of read and respond to mine because I do so to yours isn’t a nice a thing to do. As a community, one is at liberty to read and respond to posts they want.
I remember it was said, when you read and comment to others, others will return the courtesy. The most important thing is that we enjoy ourselves when interacting, and learning things along the way.

  3. Some writers here are treated differently than others, I believe. I have heard that some can bypass the moderation requirement, and post directly to the site.

That privilege should be extended to all proven writers, who have been here for a year, or more, and submitted quality articles during that time.

    • i don’t think the site rules change month to month. The value of virils change often but that is wholly based on the overall site revenue.

the rules sadly are the same as they have been for four years.

i would like to see a sped-up moderation time for authors!

  4. Submitting content to join a site is good. I saw that with applying for writing jobs. Writing jobs typically want you to submit your best work. That is an easy gauge to see the passion of the writer, and the quality of what type of writer Virily will get.

  5. I never require anyone to comment on anything I share. I do know also that there are others outside of Virily read my content but cannot comment in the process. Not everyone is interested in the subjects I share and I definitely don’t require them read it. Somewhere out there I have inspired someone with what I have shared even if its 1 out of the 50 or 100 viewers. I consider what I share as an open online diary.

  6. I comment when I have the time. Most of the time when I do its either when I have downtime and not interested in posting anything myself. I’d love to comment on every thing I see, but I limit it to the names I mostly see in my notifications.

  7. The second one sounds reasonable, although no one even said that there will be new users. I don’t have an opinion on the rest of the topics.
If someone joins and sees buggy polls, drafts not working or the long waiting for posts to get approved, I think they would be discouraged. In my opinion, we should start with fixing these.

    • that, my friend, is a brilliant point. I will resend the asks we had before to the admin team as most of the issues were in it.

I will write up something for tomorrow – thank you for your excellent comment and your very important point.

fix the issues before we bring on new writers Maybe some of the old dormant writers will return then as well!
