Posted recently about my backyard Sycamore tree. Click the link here if you missed it. Up the Sycamore
Some of you were asking about details of the tree. So I went back out in the yard and took another photo. This one really shows off the unique bark of this tree. I feel blessed to have this massive Sycamore growing in my back yard.
The most recognizable feature of a sycamore tree is its bark. It has patches of creamy white and reddish-brown color all over its surface. The dark-colored bark is the part of the old tree and the light color is the fresh bark. It is believed that the tree has got its name “Sycamore” because of the peeling flakes of its bark which make it look ‘sick’ all the time.
Those are only a few of the facts I have learned from researching this wonderful tree. I added a couple of more facts fo those who might be interested below… they are both true.

Very educational, thanks for sharing! I like birch trees
And I thank you for your interest in my posts!
We can find them in the valleys here next to water. I love them. That is one cool shot of the bark.
Thanks Kim. I was trying to get close to show how cool the bark is.
I lichen it. 😉 It worked!!!
I don’t believe I have ever seen a sycamore tree. Nice to learn somethings about it.
Thank you for commenting.
Birch and Sycamore bark was also used by the first people as a form of paper, and for medicinal purposes.
I learned something new today thanks, Carol!!!!!
I need to do another nature quiz. I have never seen a birch, doesn’t it have white bark usually? And you are very welcome.
birch the bark is more white. You should do another quiz I am ready!!!!
We don’t have sycamore trees here. So all this is information to me.
I am glad you have learned something.
Today I will post similar photos. I really liked the bark of “Sycamore”.
Oh great I look forward to your photos.
Not to sound funny but I could just see a comedian say “A sycamore bark is not telling your dog to attack someone who is threatening you.”
Oh that is funny, never heard it before. 🙂
I made that one up based on a former New Orleans talk show host named Mike Church.
It reminds me of old Eucalyptus trees in our area. I will try to find one in my external hard disc.
I would love to have one of those. But only in Australia!
There is subject hidden in the tree body, one must look it up with deep attention
You are exactly right. This is what I love about nature.
A very beautiful tree, nice bark
Thanks Pam, the bark is a sure way of knowing it is a Sycamore.

You would probably remember if you had seen it. Thank you!
It is certainly the same tree … we call him Platinum … in the autumn he has round fruits on a long stalk
Oh that is great, so it is all over the world. Cool!
…. Yes, the fruit is like a brown round fruit.
That’s just not edible, dear Carol
