I thought about Ghostwriters challenge for me to write funny stories in the wander project — something to make her laugh she said. I have decided to make this my personal mission for a while. On occasion, I will share dumb things and crazy things that I have done as an IT professional.
I realized I have as many stories of me doing goofy things as a technologist. Then I realized why not share all the funny stories. So here are just a few of my very best personal stories of oops in the technology world.
I was working in New York City and was presenting a document to a customer around 4 pm. I was getting ready for that, finishing the document cleaning it up and then I figured I needed to 12 May 15 copies. So I settled down, found the printer that was on my co-worker’s desk, plugged it in and hit print.
To borrow from the three stooges, “I tried to print, and nothing happened.”
I figure I had the wrong drivers for the printer, I uninstalled and reinstalled the printer.
Then I hit print again, and it was going to work this time!
Nothing happened.
I was getting a little frustrated when my co-worker got into our shared space.
He said “something wrong.”
“I am trying to print the document for the meeting.”
“He looked at me, looked at the printer and then said “I can fix that. The printer works a lot better when it is turned on.”
Keeping that quiet and not on the agenda of the next team meeting cost me lunch for a week.

I did pay the bribe. Sadly the story came up in a team meeting anyway.
wiggle the plug is code for “is it even plugged in?” but you already knew that
one of my all-time favorites. Of course, you have to say it with a smile!
yes, you don’t want to imply they are so simple as it can be offensive
There are two forms of response to that.
1. What is said inside my head.
2. What comes out of my mouth (filtered)
best to have an aggressive filter with your sense of humor. my filter fails are as disastrous as they are hilarious…
I have to say the one that haunts me to this day happened in Singapore. in terms of filter failure
as a teen, basically every other thing I said was a Freudian slip
I did not know Frued wore a slip.
The return of dad jokes!
honestly, nothing about Freud would surprise me. wanted to sleep with his mother and kill his father, then tried to convince the world that was totally normal…
Sometimes you just have to wonder. Not, out loud just quietly to yourself in a corner!
it is better to be thought a fool than to speak and remove all doubt
Laughter is very good medicine for all of us.
It makes all the difference sometimes! I love this idea and i am going to explore the funny things that have happened over the years.
Hahaha … I laughed heartily at reading the post. I’m glad it’s not just happening to me ?
sadly it happens to me more than I care to admit!
My friend’s printer really works better when it’s on haha … it happens
It does, and boy was the laughter loud in the m eeting!
It probably turns out funny when you think the printer broke down after you find out it is not plugged in
it was one of those meetings that i just sat there and listened.
such is life
“The printer works best when it is turned on” was an interesting statement uttered by your colleague.
I can imagine the frustration of the printer not printing not realising it’s off. That is hilarious.
Yup. Sadly for me it hasn’t only happened that one time.
Lol, that made me laugh. That has happened to me many times too!
a sad reality sometimes.
I love it and it made me smile. Thanks so much. I can’t tell you how many times I have forgotten the simplest of things.
in the world of technology, I am not allowed to make those mistakes. Sadly, that last statement isn’t true.! I think I make more than my share!
LOL Happens to all of us!
one of those special days at work 🙂
