Are Strelitzias growing near you?
-
Yes

No

Yes, I have some near by and these are considered a pest they take over the garden. they are pretty .
Yes, they are prolific growers and need to be thinned out every season.
We call them the birds of paradise. It is a common plant in the tropics and comes in many colors
Yes, the come in 6 different colors, all are natives from Africa.
I have a big Strelitzia in my garden, it is a beautiful flower.
I love them too. And I think they were aptly named as Crane flowers because they look a lot like the real live African crane.
Beautiful flower , thanks for sharing
I’m glad you liked it Witty. If you can get a small one, they do very well in pots.
Beautiful crane flowers, thanks for sharing.
Hello Hina, I’m glad you like the Crane flower, you are welcome. Thanks for commenting.
The crane flower bud looks awesome. Thanks for the interesting share on the possible role played by sunbirds in pollination.
You are most welcome Mohan, I’m happy that you liked it.
These don’t grow naturally in my part of the world but I’ve seen them in conservatories. We call them Bird-of-Paradise plants but Crane Plants makes a lot more sense to me.
Hello Gary, nice of you to comment, and sharing the information. Thank you.
It’s snowing this evening!
That sounds good, I think. These days, one just can’t tell anymore. I hope all is well there Ghostwriter.
There is one in the neighbor’s front but we call it “bird of paradise”.
It’s the same thing Alex, that’s just another name for them.
I have something like this – bird of paradise. It proliferates and I need to pull out the suckers from time to time.
That sounds just like them, I think they are part of the banana family.
The leaves give them away
Yes, Grace, they do. I wouldn’t mind if they had more than the leaves in common, like the fruit and the edible flowers.
(lol) To each their own. I have banana plants and they yield And so I would not mind having the bird of paradise that does give me fruit
This is like the Bird of Paradise but unfortunately it does not grow here. It is stunning!
Hello Carol, it’s the same flower, it’s a pity they don’t grow there, they make great pot plants too. Thanks for commenting. Andre
I believe this is also the flower called Bird of Paradise that grows in Australia. It is a fascinating and beautiful flower. I did not know it had another name.,
The scientific name is Strelitzia reginae and it comes from South-Africa but it has several other names, one of which is Bird-of Paradise-flower. It’s nice to know it grows so well in Australia. It would probably cheer up the many thousands of South-African ex-pats living there, mainly in Queensland.
