Love ItLove It

Part of my computer journey…

I started my WordPress blog more than 14 years ago now. It was a monthly, then weekly and finally daily blog as I moved from 2005 to 2008. Blogging is a personal “passion of mine.” Based on that there are a couple of tools that I often use that I don’t always talk about. One of those tools is Microsoft Word. I normally start my blogs in Word and then paste them into the window either WordPress or Virily. I have however recently installed the new Apache Open Office product to try. I am impressed with the overall ability of the newest version of the Open Office solution. I’ve also been trying the Google Apps more lately, with both the spreadsheet and WordPress core.

That does bring me back to when I moved from WordStar to Wordperfect. From 1985 to 1987 I only used the now long gone WordStar. I moved to the WordPerfect product for a few years. The reason for those two programs was that they were the more Macintosh Focused. I was a Mac user predominantly back then. Microsoft Word was available, but I much preferred WordStar. I only used WordPerfect for a year or so. Then I moved to a mix of Macintosh for my BBS and the PC for Microsoft Office. I was running a First Class GUI based BBS (Bulletin Board Service) for awhile from 1990 to 1993. My wife still complains about the sound a modem makes as it connects. I only had one phone line for the BBS so it wasn’t heavily used.

It is interesting to me when I consider the evolution of technology. I remember working with companies in the ’90s, that would have PC’s in accounting, executive offices, and technical support. But their marketing and publishing departments would always be Macintosh driven. Back then the Apple world was more focused on artists and creators. Now, Apple has moved closer, and the PC has much more artistic software than it did in the past. Now the split is pretty even as far as functionality in both accounting and artistic. So you can use what you like rather than what you are told to use!  Feel free to comment on your computer journey in the comment section. It is incredibly interesting overall!

  1. Most of these brands are new to me. Though I know Apple but I don’t own one. I have an Asus and Lenovo. I have a blog which is just 5 months old. I visited your blog, and, wow it is 10 years old.

  4. Seems like I started with a Compaq in the late 90’s, then a HP for medical transcription at home, then around 2000 or so I bought a Sony VAIO. Now I use a Mac and an iPhone.
