The Yew (taxus baccata), is one of the most dangerous trees in the world.
Except for fruit, the whole tree is toxic.
In Romania, the yew was a tree with a wide spread, but due to the precious wood and the poisonous leaves (taxina) the yew was exterminated, so that at present it is declared a monument of nature. We have some yew trees in the park and every year I look forward to the appearance of red fruits that have a very decorative appearance.
I share this photo with the Macro Monday Challenge.

Does this tree grow in your area?

No

I knew it was a toxic tree. I must point out your ability to take macrophotos!
Thank you for your support, Just me!
I had no idea the tree is toxic. You learn something new each day.
That’s why I like Virily. We find information we do not know!
I don’t remember seeing one around here, although I bet they do grow here. The berries are so red and pretty. Great shot too!
As far as I know, it is not widespread in the USA. However Doc says he saw these trees in his area.
We see these around houses a lot in Maryland – they are a lovely looking decorative bush!!!
I didn’t know this tree is found in the USA. I knew it was only found in Europe, Africa, Asia
it has been transplanted here (like corn and potatoes came from the New World to the old world)!
Is the poison very dangerous or deadly? Even though the fruit is very beautiful. Can the fruit be eaten?
The whole tree is toxic except the red flesh of the berry covering the seed. The consumption of this plant causes heart attack and death. The effect manifests quickly and there is no antidote.
I have to get further away from that plant, even though now it’s also already very far away.
Good choice, dear Albert, but I want to tell you that it is not dangerous if you pass by it! All you have to do is not to eat the leaves, bark, seeds or roots of this tree. Looking at it is not dangerous!?
I am still alive, even if I have touched its fruit!
You are safe because you are nearby, the tree already knows you well, but maybe not with me, who knows it has a certain grudge against me!!!
Trees don’t have a “certain grudge” against people. I could say that the trees in Targoviste are very friendly with people.
What a stunning picture. Love it.
Thank you! It is an interesting berry!
I don not see this before
It is a tree in the conifer family. Probably it is not growing in your area.
was told the berries were toxic, but you claim that’s the only part which isn’t…
The red flesh of the berry covering the seed is not toxic.
I believe you, but was told differently as a child
I have never seen this tree in our country. The flower looks gorgeous.
In fact these are the fruits of taxus baccata.
I have never seen this before it is amazing and very beautiful
It is primarily grown as an ornamental tree in my area.
I have seen it, but I didn’t know its name. Lovely photos!
Now you know its name! ?
In romanian we call it Tisa.
It turns out in Bulgarian it’s Tis. 🙂
It’s similar. The name refers to the fact that it is toxic.
Even in this tree we are gone, dear friend
I’m not sure I understand what you’re saying.?
Bad translation again … I’m saying that this tree has just disappeared … I don’t see it anymore
I see! In Romania it is a tree protected by law.
Europe, Africa and Asia seems to be where this one grows. What a beauty!
You are right. It can be found in these areas. In Romania, it is increasingly difficult to find it.
No this is not found in my area
It is native to Europe, northwest Africa, northern Iran and southwest Asia.
