While out in my yard earlier, looking around for bird nests and babies, I found this grasshopper. He was very big and perched on a limb of one of my white pines. He sat still while I photographed him
Sharing with the Critters Challenge. The grasshoppers are amazing to see, They are very large and when they see you they usually sit still. Hoping you don’t see them perhaps. More to enjoy in nature.

I used to chase and catch grasshoppers (and dragonflies and praying mantis and beetles) when I was a kid. In some Southeast Asian countries, hoppers are delicacies which I do not have the stomach to try ?
Pass on eating them. I just enjoy seeing them in the garden.
Looking good, this fella! I can’t think why anyone would be afraid of him. He should be afraid of me though. Not many in the west eat them, but I can report that they are very tasty 😉
Yes he is a cool insect to watch. Some people just fear the unknown.

They are interesting creatures. So far, I have not taken a grasshopper picture.

Oh no don’t be afraid! They keep their distance and are probably afraid of you.
I never touch them, I keep my distance just enough to get a good photo.
I know they’re probably more afraid of me but it didn’t make me less afraid as long as they’re inside my house … if they’re in the fields or somewhere (not the same enclosure) I’m fine with it …

Yes you are right. Sometimes they will eat leaves in my garden but that is it.
