Enjoying Simplicity ~ Sky Sunday

Every time we observe the mind during busy times, we can see that a lot of thoughts are intertwining or coiling with each other. Moreover, if there is something urgent, or a problem that requires an immediate solution, in one of any aspect of life, things that are intertwined are more and more pressing. What’s more, if we are busy people where every day is filled with a variety of activities that must be fast-paced to complete all task in the list, we must be very easy to ignore simple joys.

Based on experience so far, not only those who are still active in productive age, even those of us who have retired, often still have difficulty relaxing, calm, enjoying life as it is. Especially those who experience post power syndrome.

Often, we even have difficulty to simply sit down, enjoy the breath, keep silent without doing anything, both physically and mentally, motionless, tranquil, feeling whole and satisfied, enjoying pure happiness which is the nature of ourselves, with all the benefits. That difficulty, the neglected, the idea that it is just a waste of time often makes us more frustrated as when we force ourselves to saw something with a blunt saw.

Actually we don’t need to think about complicated things about how to enjoy this simplicity, just let go of any connotations or concepts that have been attached to “Sit, breathe, be quiet, stay on now” This simple activity to enjoy simplicity does not require any other terms at all, maybe even meditation because with the terms we have used to hear we like to expect something, pursue certain goals that are difficult and unattainable, supreme enlightenment or relative perfection, and it often makes us avoid or feel bored to do it. Try just sitting and breathing, there is no hope or desire, especially to get a brilliant experience, without trying to achieve something or continue to improve, we can let simplicity arise naturally.

These are times when we come out of the feeling of being pressured to chase our own tails, out of the daily busyness of pursuing our goals and giving space for silence to emerge and the opportunity to remember the simplicity of only beings, to remind us of the joy of a just existence.

Try to find peace and silence by letting the mind be what it is, without manipulating it or trying to change anything, to let us understand and experience things that are perfect as they really are. It is an acknowledgment that everything, just like now, has a certain beauty for them, no matter how chaotic or messy it may all appear. When we allow the mind to be what it is and just sit quietly and breathe, the joy of simplicity and authenticity easily emerges. Without forcing anything, relax and pay attention to the ease of being at this time.

  2. I always talk about simplicity and how great are the simple things around us. If we pay attention, we’ll realise that we need very little to be happy, all we have to do is sit for a while and relax. I tried to meditate a long time ago, now I’m in a little rush, but I try to do my best and live a happy life. So far so good ?.

  3. That often happens when we’re either under pressure by outer forces or the inner overdrive. It’s when we’re not balanced or the creative child has not been fed or released. Each soul eventually finds the fix.

  5. Yes, yes, no, no. If I need to write, I have to sit and “look at” my thoughts. Meditation keeps my creativity flowing and my temper even ?. I stopped for a month and quickly notice my impatience is surfacing and creativity dwindling.

      • Silly brother. I didn’t say I go crazy and out of control. More like meditation brings out the ? instead of the witch that intimidates salespeople and customers ? alike. I get impatient if say the medrep/salesrep is giving me excuses about why he cannot accept return (coz I am careful enough to check policies prior to ordering). As to creativity, I did not say I totally lose it. Only that most of my writings are product of good meditation. And well, I am not normal. Happy? ??

  9. I suspect, if I were completely honest at times i struggle with mediation. Currently, however, I am not. My job involves sitting and waiting frequently so that doesn’t bother me.

Sometimes the path is clearly lit. Right now for me, it is. The darkness will return and I won’t see the path clearly for a while, eventually.

I guess we’re so used to being busy as that is what you need to look to get recognition … IMO

  11. Yes, a person can get overtired and that is when relaxation becomes differcult. I find I need times to just allow myself just to be. It allows me to process the days activities.

    • You are right, Pamela. The mind that always jumps here and there and chasing each other makes it difficult for us to relax. What you do is important things for it’s like recharging or sharpening a saw.

  12. I totally agree with your words. We’ve been working for about 40 years at this critical pace and this has happened to us in the blood. That’s why we need a lot of time to get used to a different life.
