Another reason I love the rose of sharon blooms. Each bloom offers many meals of pollen for the bees, hummingbirds and butterflies. I love watching these bumble bees especially. They will literally get covered in pollen and sometimes fall off the bloom. I call it being drunk in the pollen.
This bumble bee is covered in pollen. See his leg, he can barely move it to get out of the bloom. He was moving in slow motion. I did not have time for a video but maybe next time. So cool to watch nature in my yard.

ants and bees have a hive mind, which means a nominal level of autonomy
Never thought of that before with ants, I knew it about bess.
the interesting thing is that both colonies have a minimum size to have a hive mind. if they are even one insect below that number, the hive collapses into individuals
Always something new to learn about nature around us.
You need patience for shots such as these. You have plenty of it I notice. Indeed a rare capture.

Poor little bumble bee. I guess that pollen is very heavy for its little frame or like you say it is drunk with pollen. I am surprised you have bees where you are. Here in Canada, we rarely see them nowadays and even for the past two or three years. Their numbers have really declined. Of course this is where I reside which has little flowers around and mostly trees…
They do this every year and it is so cool to watch. I have swarms of bees. I hate to hear about their numbers declining. These are bumble bees. I don’t see honey bees.
