Joining a team of volunteers to clean up portions of our shore is a rewarding activity. In our own little way we had contributed something to mother earth towards a sustainable environment. It is only disgusting to see some feces wrapped in plastic thrown into the open area. Some of those residing in these areas have no decent defecation system and still resorted to the open defecation.

Very nice of you to participate in such volunteers activity. You doing good for your country.
It also feels great that you are doing for mother Earth.
I am sure it is a nice feeling to do some useful.
I do not know how I missed such a useful post. India is doing it these days and they call it plogging.
We do it our own way at home.
Nowadays everyone must participate in solid waste management starting in our homes. Had you participated in plugging?
I have not as here the government has a system to visit every home to collect garbage these days. In the olden days I have used solid garbage as base for garden seat and such. I have written a post on that.
Always happy to see such beneficial activities! There are as many activities as in my country, in certain cities, while campaigning for environmental awareness. As an activist in a community organization and an NGO, I sometimes plan and mobilize such activities.
I do commend NGOs efforts in helping communities. Their sincere effort in extending help is laudable.
I think that is the role of NGOs for the community.
Very interesting. I care about the environment albeit I have never been in a coastal cleanup
Thanks for the nice comment. Maybe you can join groups who are doing this but if your area is not along shore lines it will be impossible for you to join.
Yes, I live far from the sea.
That’s really good! I don’t stay near a beach, but my kids and I sometimes bring along some plastic bags and pick up the rubbish along the way when we walk to the park nearby or in the park. It’s not only helping the neighborhood and the environment to be cleaner, but I think it’s a good lesson and activity to do with kids too.
Yes kids should also get involved as it’s for the future generations that we are taking care of our environment.
This is a very good idea, and we also have tree planting in Auckland in some areas as well
That’s nice. Planting rice is one way of mitigating effects of climate change.
Yes, I have not seen rice planted in New Zealand but any garden that produces food is great for our planet.
Think Rice planting could work in the right areas of New Zealand
You are right and I think your country has still a wide area of vacant lot that can be used as rice fields. In our country most rice fields were converted to subdivisions.
In my vicinity, we clear rivers and forests. Some are truly irresponsible
You are right some people are so mindless of what’s happening around them.
Much of the rubbish that ends up on the shore – including human waste – gets there after being carried by rivers from large population centres. That is where the problem begins and where it needs to be tackled.
The problem is the receiving end suffer the consequences. If we could only put barriers.
I wish that those kind of activities would be regularly done.
I really hope so, if we could only gather all the organizations to take turns in participating in this cause.
Let’s not make a mess to start with! My wife and I are living next to very wealthy wasters. They waste anything and they are two individuals. We are two as well but when the refuse goes out for collection on Mondays, their bin is full to the brim. Ours has less than 1/4 of waste. So, how is that? It’s no mystery, one day we checked. Perfectly good shoes and clothing end up there. Half-bottles of sodas and last night’s leftover pizza, one completely untouched and two with half missing That”s how. I wish we could trade lives for one week. I don’t want their stupid lives, I want them to appreciate, like us, what goes into the landfill sites.
They’re just throwing money to the bin, why not call their neighbors to share the pizza and the soda, they can also give that pair of shoes to the needy or just collect what can recycled and give them away.
I think citizen must be responsible enough
I hope. How I wish for every 20 citizens there must at least be one who will do this.
I am thinking to bring a plastic bag to collect rubbish with me along hiking.
That’s a great idea. I hope every hiker does it.
I think that’s good too! It’d be even better if all hikers or everyone don’t throw rubbish on the ground. 😀
Some hiker organization are trained to never leave rubbish on their paths.
