Wild garlic is a wild herb with beautiful white blooms. Many people forage it in the spring to use in food and medicine. I do not use it.
A tragedy happened here this year, when a married couple mistook colchicum for wild garlic. Colchicum is a very poisonous plant and they sadly passed away. There’s a warning that if you do not know these herbs very well, do not forage. There’s no antivenom for these plants.
Yikes! So sad they were unaware
Oh that is so tragic. Hmm.. it’s best not to eat what you don’t know.
It’s sad things like that happens …
I guess I’m better off buying herbs in supermarkets or growing some at home
About Viki nice regards – will we be here a little magic?
The flower is so nice!
People are not too careful about picking up various plants
I hadn’t heard about this before. The flower is so nice!
Im relieved its not onion flower that NZ people regard as a weed. A German girl visited my garden and identified it. She had lived in East Germany and she told me they often use it instead of garlic and onions.
The flower does not look like the wild garlic
so that is a relief.
I’ve often used onion flower in stir frys and no harm has come to us.
I like to forage, but I won’t take chances with plants I don’t know how to identify for sure. I know many look-alikes are deadly.
What a dangerous beauty…
The danger of being analog
Amazing white miracle, thank you very much for it!!!
Thank you for educating us on this plant. So sad indeed!
