Wild garlic

Wild garlic is a wild herb with beautiful white blooms. Many people forage it in the spring to use in food and medicine. I do not use it.

A tragedy happened here this year, when a married couple mistook colchicum for wild garlic. Colchicum is a very poisonous plant and they sadly passed away. There’s a warning that if you do not know these herbs very well, do not forage. There’s no antivenom for these plants.

  1. It’s sad things like that happens …
I guess I’m better off buying herbs in supermarkets or growing some at home

  2. Im relieved its not onion flower that NZ people regard as a weed. A German girl visited my garden and identified it. She had lived in East Germany and she told me they often use it instead of garlic and onions.
The flower does not look like the wild garlic
    so that is a relief.
I’ve often used onion flower in stir frys and no harm has come to us.
