Another photo to share with Kim’s Challenge for the month of May focusing on Shadows and Silhouettes. I was sitting out yesterday with my camera on the deck steps watching the bluebirds. I looked up and saw this little hummingbird sitting on his perch. His feeder is at the other end of the perch. He sits on the end to lookout for other hummers. Funny how territorial these tiny birds are. They fit in the palm of your hand. And they are hard to photograph. Any movement and they are gone. So I was able to slowly get the camera in between the deck railing and shoot up to get his silhouette. It was right before sunset and I knew it would be on the dark side. But I like the shadows.

Awe, great shot! Is it a Annas? I saw a baby yesterday on my walk, yes they are hard to catch on camera, I didn’t get an image, but it kept watching us. Good thing they aren’t vulture size with that attitude. lol

We don’t very many hummers at the house, they prefer to be down by the river.
I have them every year with at least two feeders up.
A dazzling bird that I really want to see!

they are such awesome birds, I had a flowered shirt on the other day, I had one trying to lite on it thinking it was real flowers I heard it right behind me I turn around & there it was trying to land on me.
Yes indeed if I have on red especially they will come up to me. Pretty cool.
yes it is awesome, I think if I had of stood still it would have landed
but it scared me cause I wasn’t expecting it.
They usually do not land on you unless you have the nectar from the feeder.
well I didn’t think they would but that one sure was going to.
Have you ever heard one scolding an intruder? It sounds hilarious…
Yes they scold me all the time! I have reached out to get the feeder to change and one didn’t see me, almost got attacked. They are fierce.
I wonder if that is a product of their metabolism
Probably since they do have the fastest metabolism of any bird.
I also can think of many small mammals which seem overly aggressive. Could be a metabolism thing, could be overcompensating…
I have always said the hummers overcompensate. But it is their survival.
