On June 8th at 1:49am my daughter gave birth to Spencer Leigh. He was 20.75 inches long and weighed in at 6lb 13oz.
Although I was not present during the actual birth (my wife was!) I did get to see the baby minutes after the birth. It was a profound experience. To see someone so perfect enter our world and be oblivious to the problems of our society, sleeping calmly as we fussed around him, somehow gave me hope.
This little miracle does not care about the strife of the world, has no preconceptions or prejudices; he does not know hate, only love. If only we could all go back to the innocence we had as a new born.
As I held him for the first time and saw the trust he had that we would protect me I understood the miracle of birth – it’s profound, it’s natural and it’s the one thing that we all have in common. We are all born innocent; we are all born human; we have no desire to hurt or hate – we only know love.
Let’s bottle this miracle…..
