Recently, I shared a list of fruits you don’t need to buy organic. They are fruits with thick outer skin that prevents pesticides from touching the edible fruit, or fruits that have very little pesticide residue.
However, some fruits are not that safe. The list of the fruits that receive and retain an awful amount of pesticides consists of apples, blueberries, cherries, grapes, nectarines, peaches and strawberries.

You can simply peel these fruits, or use any of the following methods in case you are going to consume the peel:
- Soak your fruits in water with some sea salt (or lemon juice/white vinegar) for 5-10 minutes. Be careful not to soak them for too long because the water-soluble vitamins may start coming out.
- Put the fruits in hot water for 10 seconds.

How well do you know your fruits? Test yourself with this fun quiz!
I do the baking soda thing too when I want to use the lemon or orange zest! Yes, soaking them for too long isn’t a really good idea. I usually just peel everything I can, because I cand digest the peel very well.
So nice post
Thanks, Olga!
One of the problems is that several commonly used pesticides are absorbed into the plants from the roots up. Little can be done to truly make the fruits or vegetables safe to eat, in that case.
It sounds really discouraging.
It can be, but there is more awareness now so more and more growers are turning away from chemical pesticides. Still, it is one of the reasons I grow my own garden. I know exactly what goes on and in my plants.
Growing your own fruits and vegetables is great indeed!
wonderful! 🙂 😀
Thank you! 🙂
Welcome 🙂
Great tips for washing the fruits, Ellie!
I’m happy you like them!
Good advice, thanks
Glad you like it, Pamela! 🙂
Because I am a fan of fruits, these tips are very useful! I usually care less about it, what’s important is I wash it, if necessary with soap! My wife usually grumbles. He is t?? hygienic for everything!
I forgot to mention that these tips work for vegetables too. 🙂 Sometimes, I also use a little bit of soap for fruits and vegetables, haha. I try to do it unnoticed though. 😀
It turns out we have something in c?mm?n!
Does that get the wax off the apples?
I think you’ll need some scrubbing with lemon juice for that.
Great post Ellie!
Thank you so much, Gina!
Great post…I don’t eat fruit but would be helpful if I did!
Why not? Fruit is healthy for you.
Not low carb. Also don’t like fruit.
These methods work for vegetables too. 🙂
That’s great to know…really I only eat spinach lol.
Unfortunately, spinach is in the so called ‘Dirty dozen’ because it’s often contaminated. It’s great you eat it though, I’m not a big fan of almost anything green, haha.
Well even so, it’s the only vegetable I can eat…and then I actually make it into a smoothie lol. Well there are other colors of healthy vegetables!
Great healthy advice for all of us!
Glad to hear that!
Thanks for the advice
You are welcome, I hope it’s helpful! 🙂
I liked the advice
Glad to hear that, Elenka!
