Yes, It's a Carrot

I have to admit. It is interesting. Perhaps it is even beautiful.I cannot imagine how much time it must have taken to create. It caught my attention and I had to learn more.

This work is called mukimono and it is a Japanese tradition. The artist of this particular item is  Gaku. I was totally wrong abut the time it takes to make one of these. Apparently it takes a long time to learn how to do it, but once you have practiced and become proficient you do it quickly before the food spoils.

According to this artist the best thing to practice on is a banana. It’s inexpensive. What do you do with this art? You take a picture and then you eat it.

  1. It would certainly be a shame to eat such a work of art, when you think of the amount of time it’s take to carve this carrot out. But saying that, it is beautiful and would look lovely on your dinner plate.

  2. The craft of carving is wonderful, but to eat something that someones hands have been all over, probably unwashed with less than sterile tools, and with all those nooks and crannies for funk to hide in…. No Thank You 🙂
On another note, it probably takes more time to bake and decorate an elaborate cake, that we all have no problem devouring!!
